I dont know why, but all of the sudden everytime I use a program that uses the acknex dll, the program crashes to that screen were is says there is an error and asks you if you want to send an error report (freekin windows...) and it happens with a few other 3d games, I know I dont have a very detailed description, cuz I dont really know whats going on with it, it was working fine before, and the only things I can think of is that I installed quicktime and I deleted some of the optional windows components like fax stuff and other things I didn't want, I even re-installed windows, and it still wont work, I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this problem and figured out how to fix it without reformatting the rest of my life................ ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ..............

Hiya. Uh, you don't happen to be talking about Quicktime *7*, do you? A fair number of people have had serious, OS-screwing, rip-your-hair-out, problems with QT7. When you say "reinstall Windows", you are talking about completely re-formating your "Drive C:\" (whatever drive/partition you have Windows on), and doing a fresh install, right? Otherwise, you could be doing more harm than good. That's been my experience anyway. Goodluck!

I've got geforece 5200, that card handles 3dgs and a lot of other games fine. I'm going to guess a virus hit your computer.

@paul l ming: I dont know which quicktime, it was the latest one, and as far as reinstalling windows, I barrowed a xp pro disc from an undisclosed friend and installed it on my computer overwriting my existing home (reinstalling drivers really sucked tho)so no I didnt reformat cuz that is a real hassle, and quite annoying cuz alot of my software are from disks that I lost. I dont know about the qt thing tho
@foxhound, yeah, I'd think it's a virus too, but it hasnt been hooked up to the internet since november, and I dont think I got a virus from the actual I-tunes website when I downloaded quicktime, but even so, I dont think it was a virus cuz I dont think someone would take the time to write a virus and have it only effect a small range of software, cuz thier is only one other program that it is affecting, I dont know if anyone has heard of alien arena, (it actually works but gets that error after 5 or so minutes, whereas the 3dgs software just shuts down as soon as I test the level or if I open like a demo here on the 3dgs, it does it right away) so um yeah

Well, it seems that in your case a fresh new install of XP could do the trick, with all Windows Updates alpplied after and the newest drivers for your hardware, form the mainboard to the graphiccard.
Otherwise check the system log before, there might be also something else which is defect or making trouble, and which is also related to your AGP/chipset device.

Do you mean with overwriting my existing "home" (xp home edition) or the previous installation on your computer at your home? My experience with XP is that with clean (format/partition) XP install, all works better instead of upgrading or reïnstalling over the previous installation.
I would go for old_bill's advice, those steps always solve my problems. With XP you have a option to go back and restore, try to install each software until the problem begin to emerge.
The beta 6.40.4 could also cause trouble, but i'm not sure because you didn't said anything about the version you are using. I have some error with plugins that where designed to work with version 6.31 and when installed the beta they no longer function, this will be fixed in the stable release though.
Anyways I do not understand what you are trying to say with "I barrowed a XP Pro disc from an undisclosed friend", is that realy secret? Recently called Microsoft about activation and from what I know; you may install XP from another disc, as long as you type in your own product number.
All the best,
Dusty
