If I may correct you - As far as I know, this is called the (physical) system memory. The virtual memory is the next step on the list: If the system runs out of physical memory (i.e. if your RAM is full), it will use the windows pagefile on your harddrive instead. This is what is called the virtual memory afaik, and it is about the slowest memory your PC has
