I am not sure if this has been said or not but I think that there should be a release for 3DGS made for vista. Somthing that can utilize vista's potential. Direct X 10 is looking pretty good, and I am wondering if there are any plans to utilize it in 3DGS. Thanks

I could read in these forums that somebody from the conitec team stated that the engine works fine under Vista. DirectX9 will be a part of Vista for sure since most games will still use DirectX9.

I also read about the Vision3d/Trinigy engine and their efforts to convert it to DirectX10 and they told that there is quite a difference in both DirectX versions. So they will probably create two different engine versions, one for DirectX9 and one for DirectX10. So you can see that it is not an easy task and DirectX10 will not be downwards compatible. With that in mind I do not expect a new version very soon. But that can only be answered by Conitec. I just wanted to show you the problems that could arise here.

Hmmm, I see. Yes there would be alot of problems, since 9 and 10 are completely different versions. But that leaves me with a question. Since 9 and 10 are completely different, will there be a big difference in the Vista and XP versions of 3DGS? Also, will creators of the Vista version be able to play their games on XP? we really need the insight of a conitec member.

As long as the engine stays a DX9 engine there will be no problem to switch between XP and Vista as long as there are no special Windows Vista commands applied.

There are lots of problems with DX10 at the moment, it runs with Vista only and seems not to be very stable. My experiences with it are not very good since it does not cooperate with the DirectX 10 driver on my system.

Also it is not fully true that DirectX 9 apps run prefect with DirectX 10, I expired lots of problems when I ran DirectX 9 games on vista. Though I had no problems with games made with A6, yet.

I've been testing 3DGS on Vista for over a week now. Runs great, no issue at all.

I think some of the problems people are having with DX9 games not running under Vista have to do with the special little "tweaks" many of these games use. 3DGS is very good at following the standards, so I don't see much issue with Vista breaking A6 titles.

A lot of people are confused about DX10. There is a reason they originally planned on releasing it under another name, it isn't a minor change like DX8->DX9. You can't run DX9 games under DX10 but Vista will come with both so you can still play all your previous DX games.

Whew! I was worried there. I was planning on building a custom computer with the Vista OS, and I wasnt sure if I would still be able to use and properly run it. Thanks doug.
