You have a model with bone animations. Delete the mesh, save as. Now open another model without animations and merge (file->merge) with the .mdl with just bones. Then attach the bones to the mesh and there you go.

but I already have the bones attached to the mesh. Why do that again? It's a lot of work. I only need the scenes...

Specially that I export two different LOD levels of models from my modeling/animating app (Hash Animation Master). One model with 1500+ triangles, other with 6000+.

You're right. I'll consider this and will check with which effort this can be implemented.

And.. what is the conclusion? This is a pretty hot request and I would like to know what you considered.

Yes my vote and...

I hope what gamestudio handle two files a one with the model and bones, and other with the animation data.

In my head, I think what is the better opcion for speed the workflod in save/export and you can save memory(I think o_O).

my two euros
ent_animate(ENTITY* entity, animation_data_file , STRING* scene,var percent,var mode)

And the people can share animation_files. or test/improbe the animation more fast.

3ds Max 8 now includes the new .XAF file format for storing and loading animation data in an XML file. Motion can now be moved from character to character in a pipeline and retargeted to account for different scale characters and objects.

This is an interesting one, indeed. Also giving it a bump
