If you have a program like photoshop or paintshop than you can make, what is known as a heightmap. That is a picture that shows the height ifference of the ground. It should look something like this: http://www.c-unit.com/tutorials/directx/images/Terrain/heightMap.jpg

You save it as bmp. Open MED and open the heightmap. Med will turn the picture in a 3d model. Then after you have added a texture you save it as terrain and you can use it in games.

There are programs though. I use Freeworld 3d, but that costs $30, don't know about free ones.

Wait how does that picture make a terrain? are the dark spots supposed to be deeper sections and light spots supposed to be places like mountians and stuff?

If you want just a huge terrain, click on the scale-tool in wed and scale it

EDIT: Yes, dark is low and bright is high *rapping*

problem 1. you have to have level geometry in the level.
problem 2. you do that in the program you made the terrian in.

1. Make a big cube, then hollow it out and put the terrain in that.

2. In MED you add a skin to the terrain.
You only add textures in WED onto geometry blocks

Ok so i opened it in MED and i went to opened up the generic terrtain that WED gives wen u add a terrain. The only place to do something with skins that i saw was /view/skins/ and i didnt know how to get them on to the actual terrain. ??
