What exactly is a normal? I know that it is a vector perpendicular to a surface, but is it a group of coordinates or a group of angles? And would it be the normal I would use to rotate an object so it is parallel with the surface?

a normal is a direction vector with a length of 1, representing the facing direction of a surface.

yes, you would use the normal to calculate the angles needed so soemthign was parallel to its surface

So I'd take tilt and rotate it until it aligns with normal?
