Go to the "Downloads" section of the GameStudio site and scroll a good bit down. In the "Additional Software" section you'll see in big letters "MAYA". That is a free mel script complete with instructions on how to use it.
I know it works in version 6 and 7, but haven't had a chance to try it on 8 yet.
