Any block with a surface smaller than 2x2x2 quants will almost always cause problems when compiling. For fine detail like that, use models as they allow for sizes to 1/64 quant and smaller (this has little meaning - anything more precise than 1/16 quant has little meaning and not worth doing. Blocks must always use integerical coordinates. Models do not. Plus, models render in excess of 50 times faster than blocks can.
