I have recently started a little project, and need a little advice as to how I can best create an effect. The genre is a top-down arcade-style plane shooter. My problem is I am using a terrain in the first "area" and instead of making unique terrain for the entire level, I would like to make interchangable pieces that can be called (either at random or defined) to lengthen the level. I also need this because the player is constantly moving, and if he/she takes too long fighting the boss, you could very well run out of terrain .

My first thought was, once the player reaches a certian point on the terrain "chunk" he/she is on, ent_create places a new one in front, and ent_remove removes the terrain behind you. However, is this the best way?

My focus in this game is to make it rock solid, which means I want to aviod bugs as much as possible, while making a nice-looking, playable game. If this is the best way, so be it. An example is probably not required, but dont let that stop you .

Check out the AUM, one issue, i forget which, had an infinite level set up, where it would keep adding models in place the further you went, no matter what direction you went. Be quite easy to implant for a top down game.

Thank you, Foxhound, this looks like what I need. Will take some tweaking in order to make it prefect for my use, but this is a perfect starting point.
