Who would pay that kind of money for this?

Sphere Engine--the premier A6 graphics plugin.

The engine crashes on my computer during startup,
not a good advertisement for a professional gamedev for 10000$ ....

That automatically puts the engine in another class and suddenly it's not impressive at all. "serious" development teams with budget have lots of different and better choices in this price range.

wow, this price is fiction at the moment. They still have no light mapping. They only support max and maya, the environments are fairly small, the editors are very basic, particle and material editors are only at the to-do list.

MS FrameNetwork is not very fast. Maybe this is only needed for the editors so it might be ok.

Much work still has to be done.

And by the way: the artwork is ugly. That is not a good exhibition of a 10 thousand dollar product.

You can get the Jupiter Engine, Lawmaker or even a budget version of Vision3d for this prize and they are all much better.

Indeed the price is really high , i think they estimate their engine too lot.

But no for the demo , it runned really really smooth with shaders, full screen effects , and also after spawning 20-30 animated characters even if bad looking
aliens shooting at you :
all that running with particle effects, physics at same time : running perfectly fast and smooth

Ok , we should see it running with a lightmapping pass , 1 to 3 real time moving lights (optimized like in AAA engines).

but already running with basic game logic script for ennemies to shoot you
and physic collision etc ...it was lot better frame rate compared to BV or others affordable indie engine

-a lightmapper , it would be really better to import lightmaps from 3DSMAX , Maya or another little tool (you can control quality and speed generation can be extremely fast)

For that price : yeah you can find better and as fast engine : yes i think
(LawMaker for example !)

My dream to add in my collection a top notch 3D engine package have disapperead

(too high price for me)

Another based on Ogre3D to consider , but perhaps not as complete , eay to use ?? i don't know ??

It does not run smooth. Just press ESC and enable shadows. With a few characters in sight it slowed down to 7 fps here with my ATI Radeon 9500.

And keep in mind: They have no light maps applied so far.

It is just an engine like all the others are The tool-set will make it.

Actually, what I ment with "not done themselves" they sell it for grand prize. They havn't done it for fun, but click-here-and-there money. Seriously, this engine runs pretty okay, but I don't like the map editor nor contents editor' outlook. 4000$ for non-multi-platformed indie game engine is too much, even 2000 would still bee a bit too high prize.

I would pay, if they really had done all that themselves and fix those damn shadows.

I don't pay for quality, if it isn't original. i can get the same with some work for free.

For shadows it's also a probelm with AAA games in fact.

in last 3D games : NeverWinterNights 2 , Gothic 3 etc ...
shadows can completly slow down the game.

after that there is also optimisations for shadows only big AAA companies that have dedicaced programmers to that.

some games uses LOD for shadows , or only activate them if close enought, or sometimes use projection texture to fake static shadows,
even Doom3 have real shadows on only few and nerest elements of rooms :
just turn out lightmapping ot see it

well , shadows eneabled and coded standard non optimised : all people know and i've tested on other engines or technic demos : shadows drop the frame rate
easily.

look at last showcase on Ogre3D forum : a user is creating optimised versions of shadows and faked ones (like planar only and others).

No for me seeing all running fast smoothly (animated characters, shaders , physics , particle effects) together showed me Ogre3D potential.

even BV engine and it's demo with some physics , no animated characters run really slow compared that engine.

Well , i stop here ; i can just say , frame rate was great on my PC compared to some other stuff and other comparable simple demos.
the editors are not really complete indeed
(try RTS demo and press the key to go in editor mode , or run the Exe of the editor and you will be able to visualise the ressources ( pics, particle effects etc .. )in cool panels )
But the base seems really good with all that stuff : shaders , physics, particles

Now the price is too hight indeed and for non commercial use : i don't see the interest if you can't even make a simple shareware

I stop here , let's see in 6 months the future of the engine if it continues to be developped and the pricing , demos and games ....

well, the shadows are casted in to the roof, and I see planar displacements in the shadowing ^^'
