You know those ugly looking edges on the sprites-how do I get rid of them? I have the Extra version.

I fix that problem by opening in psp7 and zooming in to about 400%. You can pretty much see then where the colors are fading out into the 0,0,0 true black. Where they start fading I just make my brush 0,0,0 and color them creating a definate outline of my sprites.

Uh, I have no idea what Kinji is talking about. What you need to do is use alpha transparency. This is not available in Standard, but you said you have Extra so you're good to go.

Alpha transparency involves creating an alpha channel in the image to define transparency and then saving as a 32bit TGA image. Exactly how this is done depends on your image software. The common bit however is that black pixels in the alpha channel make those pixels in the image fully transparent, white is fully opaque, and the various shades of grey are accordingly semi-transparent. Thus, you can get a gradation of transparency (as opposed to just on/off) allowing for an anti-aliasing effect of the edges.

@jhocking: I exactly understand, what Kinji means. If you use PCX or BMP sprites, it's important to not having dark borders.

The only problem with TGA sprites is, that, for example, instead of two sprites for a simple X for a plant you need 4 TGA sprites, each with the half image of the plant - otherwise you have visibility problems. And with a lot of TGA sprites the frame rate goes down. But TGA really looks much better, if you go nearby.

So I use both, PCX and TGA sprites.

@Kinji:

You wouldn't be the SAME Kinji from Genesis3D several years ago would you?

The same Kinji that worked so closely with Jean Louis?

If so... when did you come over to A5? I owe you alot! (If you're who I think you are that is!) [Wink]

I did in fact work with Gen3d for a long time, still tinker around in reality factory a bit when I get really bored. If anyone is interested in looking at demos made by genesis3d just lemme know. They are ok but not as good as ones I have done using 3dgs. After I tried A5 I figured out quick it was the way to go for me. Anyway, its good to see a few faces here that have come over from Gen3d and I have even seen a couple dark basic converts ;-) Looks like A5 is winning them all.

Good luck with all ur games and may ur programming be swift and bugless [Eek!]

I KNEW it had to be you! [Big Grin]

Not exactly a common handle there bud!

I am glad I bumped into you here. Developers of your caliber lend alot more credibility to this engine! [Wink]

I want to say thanks for all of your help! Between you, Jean Louis, and Ran13, I learned the fundamentals!

You probably don't remember me, but I sure as h*ll remember you! People who make as large a contribution to a community as you guys did just don't come along every day!

I can't wait for a glimpse of what you're working on... I still vividly remember the P.I.G. demo, and that was one of the better G3D demos I ever played. I am eager to see what you can do with A5!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program:

You wouldn't happen to know of any good tutorials on this for PSP would you?

This has stumped me ever since attempting to skin for Tribes2!

I have been working on a project here using A5 for a long while. Took a small break and now its time to finish up on it. In November there is a 3d expo in New Orleans that I would like to enter the demo in. If anyone is interested in the expo email me for more info. As I understand a few prizes will be awarded such as VR gaming equipment and other nice tools that can be used by doing a little "force-feedback". Karma if you would like to beta lemme know. The only person doing it so far is me so the help would be appreciated.

Love to! Just let me know when you are ready!

Perhaps when my project is far enough along you'd take a look at it? I'd love to get your opinion! [Big Grin] (Although, I'm quite a ways from being done. [Wink] )
