Here ya go, been trolling for 3 years .. finally decided to try my hand at modeling.
I grabbed the reference from the web. this guy makes some really awesome collectible weapons.
MED reports 571 Vertices and 1074 Faces

Well, it seems you've got the basic shape done nicely. Now all you have to do, is add some relief to it and improve the skin. However, as it's one of your first models, this is very good,

Thank you, the painting part is pretty tough. Tons of tutorials out there for gimp, but I haven't found one specifically for painting a model, using layers and highlights. Sure there are alot out there telling you to use them, but I am still searching for a breakdown on how people use their layers and what they put on them. I'm trying to do this using as many free programs as possible. Gimp is a great tool, Blender has a bit of a learning curve but I got the basics down. Like I said, the painting is going to be a bit harder untill I can find a decent Gimp Tutorial on how people use it specifically for models.
