Hi there,

I've just downloaded the free demo of 3DGS, and so far I'm pretty impressed. But for the life of me I can't get the sun to work. I have been following the WED Tutorial, and I managed to make a house, add a camera, add colored lights, and texture everything OK. Then I added a giant hollow cube to make a sky, and I aligned the bottom of the cube with the bottom of the house. I textured the cube with a sky texture. (The tutorial said it came with a sky texture, but I couldn't find one, so I borrowed one from another set of textures available here.) The trouble is when I try to add a sun. The outdoors is pitch black.

I followed the instructions: File - Map Properties - Sun, made it yellow, fussed with the azimuth and angle. But when I compile and run, I see nothing outside the interior of the building. I've tried fussing with various options: solid sky; sky as cube; nothing helps. What am I doing wrong? Perhaps the demo doesn't support the sun??

I don't know but I think it is because you have enclosed your game is a cube and because the sun light probably comes from outside maybe the program is treating the cube as solid and do not letting light pass. Try to run it withouth the hollow cube. If still, add some light and make sure all the textures are ok, and the function correctly. One time I got something similar and added some lights and I finally saw inside my hollow cube, using the predifined texture. If it doesn't work I am sorry but I am only begginning with the program. I hope it helps.

Have a nice day

Thanks for your reply. I do see fine without the hollow cube, so perhaps indeed it is blotting out the sun. But it's a pretty darned big cube. How big does it have to be to reach Sol?

The sun is infinitly far away. You can't reach it.

If You're using the box as a skycube, I believe the sun will pass through. Otherwise, you can make a light with a VERY laryge range, add a couple weaker ones in every direction (6) around it and it will create a sun- effect.
