Where can I get Newton plugin?

Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/12/07 01:56

Is it still on the download page? I had gotten it before from there, but I deleted it because I thought that I wouldn't use it for a while.

But what goes around comes around, and I would like to find it again!

It's at neither of those. It's only on the conitec server, but theres no link for it on any of the pages.

Luckily I'm a genious and know where it is though,

Not really, it's just that Newton took the 3DGS version off their site. now they only have the demo (with hidden source)...

Thx guys, Now If I could just figure out why some (in fact most) of the tut levels arent working.

(TONS of script errors )

EDIT: Any Newton tuts available? (I know I already tried to look for 3DGS physics tuts, but since I now have Newton, I would like to learn.)

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/14/07 04:28

Um, yeah there's been some compatibility issues with the newer versions of 3DGS...

Thats why I released a compatible version! - At the bottom of my signature theres a thread with a (small) newton example...

Um, 404 error. The site is gone?

There, I updated the link. Instead of linking to the thread, it now goes directly to the file...

Last time I tried Newton (6.4 I believe), the Newton objects would fall through the terrain geometry. They were fine on level blocks, just not terrains. Does 6.5 play nicer w/ Newton? Anybody Know?

Newton canīt handle chunked terrain.
Call the terrain file something like terrain_n.hmp (n can be every letter or number you want) to disable chunking for that terrain or set the
var terrain_chunk = 0, to disable all chunking.

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/27/07 01:38

hmmm...doesn't seem to work for me.

To test, I copied the NGD_Tutorial folder from NEWTON into my work folder. In NGD_Tutorial_1.wmb, I removed the bounding cube that contained the player and the newton sphere and box, and I put in a terrain instead. The filename is "gimpter_n.hmp" and I named the entity "gimpter_n" inside WED. I tried "1" instead of "n", too. I also added the line, "var terrain_chunk = 0;" (no quotes) in my main WDL just below all of the includes.

I built and ran the program. When I shoot the newton objects, they fall to the ground and just keep going. Player is able to run around w/o falling through. :/

Did I put the "var terrain_chunk = 0;" line in the correct place? Do I need to set some other property on the terrain entity?

thanks.

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/27/07 03:19

Newton doesn't support terrain in the newer versions. You have to save your terrain as a model instead. Then apply the terrain action.

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/27/07 11:45

It works fine for me.
Have you registered the terrain for newton?

How do I do that?

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/27/07 20:48

With this action:
Code:

action NewtonTerrain
{
NewtonAddTerrainEntity (my);
}

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/27/07 23:45

Slin, it worked like a charm. Thanks much.

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/28/07 04:35

Is that not what the regular newtonTerrain action does?

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/28/07 11:34

Sure, I just copied and pasted it .
Without chunking newton works allright with terrain.

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/29/07 14:57

Just a little question...
If I want to use Newton plugin with 3DGS, can I download it directly from its homepage (http://www.newtondynamics.com) or must I use the special version from xXxGuitar511īs link? I mean, will the official version work with 3DGS?

Re: Where can I get Newton plugin? - 04/29/07 18:54

The official ( and current ) version of Newton isnt ported to A6 yet. You must use xxxGuitar511's or the one in the link above.
