Inaccurate panel bitmap colors?

Inaccurate panel bitmap colors? - 07/29/05 18:39

I just noticed last night, that our User Interface panel bitmap colors, when shown in A6, do not seem to match the original bitmap colors. I took a screenshot and compared them with the originals.
Is there something that could affect the panel bitmap colors? Lighting, or something else? The differences are not profound, but are noticable, and a little annoying after coming up with shades we like.

What file format are you using with your UI graphics?

They are currently all .bmps - aside from a visual difference, the actual RGB values differ as well (i.e. I'm not imagining it )

The engine interprets BMPs and PCX files as a 16-bit graphic. For 24-bit (or 32-bit), use TGA files and that would fix it right away. Just open up your BMP files and save them as TGA in your graphics editor and you're done, no other edits are required, unless you want to edit them.

Excellent - that did the trick! Thanks for the help!

Keep in mind though, doing it this way uses up more disk space and video memory so use 24-bit textures with caution (especially 32-bit textures).

Good advice. We're currently making a small 2-D game, so all we have now is panels and bitmaps - no 3D models or level geometry, so I'm hoping we can get away with larger, nicer bitmaps
