Big Terrain at 0.000 Problem

I got a big ol' terrain, 20480x20480 with 250 horizontal and vertical vertices scaled to 10.000 in WED and centered at position 0. FPS good... It's huge. But for some reason with the terrain this big, my player entity is treating position 0 on the z axis like it is the ground. He will fall fall fall and once he hits that height, he stops and can run around like it was solid ground. I scaled the terrain down to 1x and the problem disappeared. Anyone know why this is happening?
