terrain size vs. texture size

terrain size vs. texture size - 07/10/07 21:54

i am a novice when it comes to building levels (programming is what i like), but all my terrains look really bad. The texture never fits, because i have to scale the terrain up to fit the characters.

as a rule of thumb, what should i do? Create large terrains from the get go or small terrains and put them together, like a puzzle. Or any other suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

Make your terrain as big as you want, you can create a terrain in MED, or use a model. Then apply a terrain mutitexture shader, such as the one included with A6 and A7 in the mtlfx file, follow the directions and it will work perfectly.
Both types of terrrains will be effected by sunlight and shadows.

Speaking of multitexture terrain shaders in mtlFX..

Has anyone gotten mtlFX.c to work properly? I get a number of errors trying to compile, the most interesting being one that says something along the lines of "error in effect; redefinition of matWorldView
float4x4 matWorldView;"

A quick scan of the files in the directory reveals that there is not a single occurrence of matWorldView in the files.

Perhaps I have something configured wrong, but it's late and I'm not at my dev computer so I thought I would at least see if anyone else had any problems.. I can post the other errors in the morning if it would help.

Thanks,
