3DS MAX 9 Export Models - 06/30/08 11:26
I use 3DS MAX 9 to model and version 7.07 of 3D Game Studio.
Since i use MAX and since MAX is much more powerful than MED, i wanted to use a plugin to export from MAX to MDL or another version.
I tried to use FBX but in MED when i preview the model doesn´t appear, also when i run any game with lite-C.
So my question is what is the best plugin to export from MAX and where can i find it. I´ve searched the forum but didn´t find anything.
Thank you.

maybe you make a mistake at the output from MAX to the .FBX Format I have tried it too and everythings working great,
but when you need a other way try to export as a .3DS and then Import it in MED it works too. So thats all what i know.

To export you need 3dsmax 5 and a .mld export plugin,
search for: 3dsmax plugins

there is no exporter for MAX9 to MDL.
I use a max9 to .X exporter than import it to MED
hope that helps.

Exporting as a 3DS file and importing to Max is fine. There seems to be a bit of a glitch though. Make sure you select "New Model" from the file menu. Even if you have not loaded a model, before you import the .3DS model.
Cheers.

Here is a video tutorial. It features animation, but the principle is the same.

In case you haven't try this:
From Max, export as .FBX, expend the "Advanced Options", expend the "FBX File Format", change FBX version to FBX200611.
From MED, import "Model From FBX (11.2006)".
Then, save as .MDL.
This will works together with the texture. For animation, I'm not sure how to.

Animation and bones comes with fbx too. Just check "bones" while importing from med and uncheck "convert to points animation"
