How to export 3D models from 3DS MAX? - 09/09/10 00:58

How do I export 3D models from 3DS MAX and import them into MED? I tried exporting to *.3DS file and importing into MED but after inserting the 3D model into WED, compiling the level, and trying to run a program from SED, I get a message saying that acknex.exe has stopped working. Both 3D model and its texture appear in both MED and WED.

You say the you compile from WED but then you run from SED...
What happens when you try running from WED?

BTW... You can also export from MAX as an .obj file and import that into MED
Then save as an .mdl file then add to the level through WED... compile and run through WED...

Try this: Update your 3ds max exporter for fbx and export your model as fbx 2010.

I had a problem with .3ds too. Since I use fbx to export from max my models are every time correct wink

I was using my version of "Knights on Wheels" program that loads my level. I will try FBX exporter.

I tried the FBX exporter but I still get the message when trying to run the program from SED. I have Windows 7 Home Edition.

Maybe it isnt the model which makes problems.
Did you try a standard model of 3dgs?

Upload your script and write the download link.
I have Windows 7 too and test it on my system wink

If I create a 3D model in WED, no problems. I am confused with texture mapping in WED. I don't know why acknex.exe stops working when I try to run a program from SED if I create 3D model in 3DS MAX.

I tried again with version 8.03 of A8 but I still have problems trying to run programs from SED loading levels that have imported meshes.

I found out that I have to use "File/Import" in WED instead of MED but if WED splits large meshes while compiling the level, acknex.exe stops working when I try to run a program from SED or from WED. I think that 3D Game Studio doesn't support large 3D meshes. Any suggestions?

Ok... thats big !
It's ok in a software like 3D Studio Max... but in a game development software,
with collision detection going on in the background you will be telling the engine to be checking out a lot of verticies...
Their is a way to reduce the vertice count with MED... that is, if you have a higher version... use the "Manage Levels of Detail" drop down and play with that...
Try to lower the statistics as much as you can with out ruining the model...

I think that I will abandon 3D Game Studio for Unity game engine. I was able to import the 3D model into Unity and walk around it.

u should use unity for it...
