Overlay error using DDS skins

Overlay error using DDS skins - 06/21/06 18:51

I am currently trying to texture my guardhouse model using DDS skins, seeing as they are much smaller in size than the rest of the supported formats. However, I run into a wierd overlay issue. Is seems that, regardless of depth, if the same skin is used twice, and those skins overlap inside the 3D world, they are not rendered as seperate skins, but instead, as one. Therefore, it makes depth perception impossible. Here is a picture of what I am talking about...

as you can see, the inside of the door, which uses the same skins as the inside walls, is rendered wierd at the point where it overlaps the inside walls. The hole in the roof overlaps the doorframe, and you cannot see the frame of the window, because it uses the same texture as the wall (note: the texture is positioned a different way, so that it IS distinguishable from the walls in other formats). Does anyone know if this is simply an atribute of the .DDS format, or if there is something I can do to fix this problem. I would really rather continue using the DDS format, because my model went from 2MB(using bitmap skins) to ~300KB. Thank you in advance.

Ok, assuming that no1 has any info on the topic, I supose I will go back to .pcx skins. Google did not prove helpful either. Thanks anyways.

I don't know either. I can't save as DDS (and I haven't worked with 3D for over a half year) and I otherwise can't test it.
