Lowpoly Blacksmith - 12/30/07 03:25

This model is part of a Medieval Model pack i'm working on, which will be available for sale on February. The pack will include

-Swordsman
-Archer
-Spearman
-Warrior with axe
-Rogue
-Tavern Keeper
-Villager Male
-Villager female

Current polycount is 1700 triangles and the texture size is 1024x1024. An anvil, and smith hammer will be included on the texture as well. The hair of the model is still untextured, and the boots are missing some details too

comment and crits welcome =), and suggestions for other characters to include on the pack are appreciated too

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 03:34

Wow that looks awesome ^^ And as it is a package it means all the models are of the same style ^^

Will these be animated? ^^

Thanks,
Adoado

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 03:36

yeah all of them will include tons of animations
Posted By: Nems

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 03:42

Yup, awesome.

Crit;

The shoulders compared to the torsoe is too large, perhaps broaden the torsoe to accomadate the shoulder width, extend the lats a wee bit more and actually reduce the overall shoulder girth slightly too.

Dwarf with hammer
jugglers
Horsemen
Noble or sherrif

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 04:10

Thanks for the crits and suggestions Nems

Actually all the characters will include horse riding animations but the horse model itself won't be included in the pack (sold separately)

bye!

looks very nice mate keep up the good work

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 05:54

I disagree with nems about the shoulders, I think they look nicer like that and would probably be easier to animate smoothly anyways.
Posted By: chaotic_dragon

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 06:47

i understand what nems is saying yeah they are abit big but i also agree with climate on the fact that they would be easier to animate, also makes him look tougher cause hes got broad shoulders.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 09:46

I think the broad shoulders fit in very well as they underline the figure's character. Very good work:-)
One question: Does the Blacksmith a 4-pocket jeans?(As I would conclude from the pockets in the rear view)

Suggestions for other characters would be merchants, hunters, guards, magicians, pestilent people, beggars, dark mages ...

Cheers

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 10:28

Anyway... it is a good looking model. Good Textures and good modeling. But I personally would not use it for a Medieval game. I would not associate a professional bodybuilder with a blacksmith. The characteristics of a blacksmith does not fit with your model.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 10:50

Bodybuilder or not, it still is a master piece if you look at the amount of detail relative to the poly count
Besides, it is still a WIP
You keep on making these models Andvari but actually, there isn't much to comment on everytime if you know what I mean ^^

Cheers

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 11:37

It looks very nice, but I highly doubt they had trouser pockets in medieval times.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 13:27

Believe him, he comes from that time
Posted By: Andvari

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 13:57

alpha_strike, I used the following images as reference for my model, that's why I made him so muscular.

And well, i think everyone is right about the trouser pockets, my fault.
Posted By: Andvari

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 15:51

I narrowed down his shoulders a bit and removed the pockets from his trousers . I also made s quick sketch in photoshop to show what i'm planning to do with his hair

What u people think?

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/30/07 17:25

ups... I thought this should be a character for a medival game. But you interpretate it like a middle way between fantasy and medival. So this means something other.
When I read your post first, I thought about something like him...

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 07:37

done the hair, and his smith hammer

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 09:33

Nice update
Btw, I think he'll hurt his toes when holding the hammer like that

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 12:12

Yeah it indeed looks more like a dwarf blacksmith than a real medieval human blacksmith, but apart from that I really really like the style.
Posted By: tkunze

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 12:32

I think he was a dwarf in his former life...

But i really like the model and due to the fact that i am working on a
medieval style fantasy game it fits very well.

Can't wait for the release date of the package.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 16:15

Another update, just modelled more accesories for him. And anvil (still untextured) and a red hot iron bar

And yeah, that picture tkunze posted was a dwarf character i modelled years ago, I used his head as a base, but was too lazy to change some parts of it

I'll start working on the rogue as soon as I'm done with this guy

Oh man, if I only had your skills.... Say, do you do cartoon characters also?

oooooh he's looking good enough to build a smithy for

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 18:10

Great work man
Which programs do you use?
Posted By: Tristan3D

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 20:42

Don't worry about it - it's not a problem if a blacksmith is packed with muscles - it's the common and reasonable thing to make a blacksmith - I woud have done it the same (muscle) way.

But I agree with some other guys in here... the shoulder is way too broad. Though it's a more stylised human being (almost cartoony), but it's just anatomical inaccurate. Would make a better appearance if you would correct this. Nevertheless, it's a great LowP work. I do like it a lot

Edit: I've just seen that you narrowed the shoulders: perfect! Great work

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 12/31/07 22:40

Done i've textured the anvil and added a tree stump too . Total polycount of the scene is 2200 triangles

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 01/01/08 12:22

Great 3D art !
and skillfull painting skills indeed

The problem people here won't be able to make as good levels as you could do
for the characters !
You should work in a real team makeing a real game, with your great 3D art
But some money why not !

The final model looks very nice - especially when lit

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 01/01/08 13:25

First of all: Very impressiv work indeed!

But there is some kind of "seam" in the skin where the arms/shoulders are connected to the upper part of the body.
Maybe this can be fixed by painting a better transitions of the arms texture to the texture of the upper body part at that certain location.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith WIP - 01/01/08 22:28

Awesome work, just curious how much would this pack be? I might buy it for my RPG that i am hoping on starting (if anyone wants to team up with me on making it I would be very happy , I can't write a program but i can model some and put levels together )

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith - 01/02/08 06:21

nice model, andvari.
but I have a little curiousity.
do you take the body texture from the "swordmaster tutorial" e-book.
because it's look very same.
btw, it's very nice model.

Great work Andvari!

Off topic, would you happen to know if/where there is a robin hood pack you worked on?

From this thread:

Thank you!

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith - 01/11/08 17:00

How are you progressing on your plan to release a model pack in February?
I am definitely interested in this.
What will you be charging? Will the models all be in Gamestudio format?
Keep up the good work. Very nice indeed!!
Best regards,

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith - 01/15/08 17:12

hello again and thanks everyone for the feedback =)

David, that Robinhood model pack was made for a client, I can't sell those characters.

Jim I'll do my best to have the model pack completed by February.

Hi Andvari,
I thought I would bump the thread to see if you are progressing on your goal of a pack of characters. You are off to a good start.

Hey Andvari, Will your models come with any normal mapping? Let me know, GS out.

Re: Lowpoly Blacksmith - 01/30/08 17:05

Gamesaint, the models won't include normal mapping

And JimFox, I'm afraid I'll have to delay the launch of the model pack a couple of weeks, I've been working on a couple flash games the last weeks so I'll resume my work on the models this weekend.

but, here is a preview of the next model, a Swordman
