5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/21/08 15:04

based on my AI-test and a post from JulzMighty plus some hours (6h) of fun... here's the smallest ego-shooter made with GS (or not):
click the image for download

(ai not finished! models/sounds are (c) by their owners and just placeholders - but they are so cool! ;))

have fun, c&c welcome...

very cool shooter for under 5mb , the only thing i see wrong is when the monsters attack they seem to attack to fast and you die to quickly but other than that its great. smile

found the exit once, it would be cool if we can understand that player gets hit(when you get hit from backj you cant see the monster ).

i realize that i was attcking when i die lol laugh

Nice job. I love the trigger action, very quick.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/22/08 00:26

very cool. i found myself very cautious with my ammo at first, and scraped through feeling that the ammo distribution was really good for the atmosphere. i like how fast they kill you in the first one, as long as you don't start near one.

it would've gotten my vote :P

I was actually entertained playing this. I'd like to see this finished, I would propably actually play until the end. Good job on it. Especially for 5mb's. Hope to see more.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/23/08 17:59

Nice progress on this mercuryus.

I found the mouse sensitivity to be a little high in the latest version. Also, it took a couple of minutes for me to figure out which key opened the doors with the switch. There are a couple of walls that don't quite line up in the big room, a quant or two offset.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/23/08 18:53

Opps... SPACE, CTRL and ENTER triggers the switches.
Leveldesign is not my world - so all what you see is just cobbelt togehter frown

Maybe someone here is interested in leveldesign/-build for such a ego-shooter?
Then it could become a real cool shooter?!...
I would prepay the needed models for such a project.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/23/08 18:56

how big a level would you want? i can donate a few models if you want them.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/23/08 19:24

Ohh! You are interested? Cool thing!

There's no other limit for the level size than the engines limit (and currently it's running very smooth).

Models that fit in style are always welcome!
What do you think about?

I love this classic shooter style

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/23/08 20:58

Well this is a shot from the science station wip, it is going to be a large building and should suit your shooter ok i think, however as the model is going to be in the game i am working on i`d prefer the mesh plus textures not get redistributed, can you lock em up in a wrs file?

I'd be interested in modeling stuff for it, like weapons, I like this shooter very much, solid gameplay, and its fun

Funny for a simple shooter, but nothing special though.

Unfortunately the zombies have no real AI (wich might fir for the zombies though).

Look at your camera-turn code, and make it framerate independent. it seems as if the angular velocity
drops when the framerates drop.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/24/08 20:05

I would like to try this game out but It wont work or im not doing something right. I extracted the files but how do I start the game. The files dont appear in WED or SED so what do I do to start them?

O and I tried using the exe file but all I got was an error message saying acknex.dll missing please try to re install the program.

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/24/08 23:12

@Oxy: You'r right - nothing special but funny.
And you're right with the camera code and the (currently missing) AI.
There are some other bugs (zombies walk through walls, light errors, ...), some are fixed already.

@OblivionDrake: just use one of them and don't mix them up. Maybe you have to copy the "d3dx9_30.dll" into the games directory but I'm not shure. Otherwise I can't help you with that now. Maybe a future version will run for you. Don't be to sad - it's nothing special wink as Oxy mentioned

"zombies walk through walls"

just an idea: you could add ghosts that go through walls which give some hints with lights or particles that they are right before appearing near you

Re: 5mb-shooter (not in contest) - 11/25/08 11:46

i was thinking: i like how we have to find the zombies -- we're safe if we've cleared the current passage and stay in this passage -- it allows some time to think.

but i think it would be cool if there was also this one uber-zombie (walks on all-fours or something) that's actively searching for you. starts at the exit of the maze. just looks for you using the fruit of your research into how we traverse a maze. perhaps even slow and invincible -- that way you have to lead him out the way if you want to get passed him.
