Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/25/08 02:36

I hope C&C are Welcome... wink

Textures are too clean, add more Dirt etc to the Textures.
Very Low Poly, more Details would be better.
Maybe search on Google for some reference Pictures to get it more realistic.
Edit:
Add more Various types of Walls / Buildings.
Dont make all Blocks on the Wall like each other, add some more Polys for some Various Types of Blocks.

Sry Dude but IMO nobody would buy this for 5 bucks, this can be created in less than 1 hour.

True. It's just some textured block. And the textures are much to small for 2008. The tower looks horrible. You should totally rework them.

I agree ^^
Even more so with the googling part, i would advise actually looking at some real castles to get a more detailed idea of what one looks like.

The quality of the castle is as high as the quality of your avatar picture.

So you have a consistent style...

Hint: Set the smooth flag for the round parts of the tower.

Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/26/08 00:48

Well thanks you Oxy, That is what I look like. I am so glad you like it. Now if you like that so much........... you should like this very much.
I spent a few min. on playing around with the wall. This is not what I will be using, well who know, Oxy may like this so much I will have to use it. isn't this great. I am sure having fun.

Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/26/08 01:40

Well someone feels irritated grin.
Understandable, though wink.

I think the castle looks fairly good for a block level, in that he texture is scaled and aligned properly,
and the castle lay-out looks 'realistic' so far. You just need to extend it more with details, lots of
details, if you aim at realism.

Notice that Oxy's comment may sound harsh, but it is the truth: you haven't used lightning,
shadowmapping, or other methods to bring your scenery to life. It's a plain colormap, just
like your avatar. Of course, that doesn't mean it's a bad project, it's just not polished
and finished smile.

Joozey

The fact that he is using A5 (if there is one) could effect this a lot.

I Dont think so... This is 3D WORLD Studio not 3D Gamestudio. Show on this Signature, he wrote "I have A7"...

By doubeling the resolution of the textures, and including
light rendering (sun light + shawowed areas)
and adding a skybox, you can increase the quality a lot without much work.

Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/26/08 20:40

I am a long way from lighting. I still have to do all the textures for the walls, building and the towers. then I have to all the building, gates, windows, glass and doors. Plus puting in all the eye wash. I have not even
started to think about lighting or bunmp mapping where i may need it. To do things like that to need something to do it to. Right now I have nothing. I am slowing coming alone.

PS. I am a old man, It take a lot for me to get mad. I am haveing the time of my life. I like people who say what they mean. I sure in the hell do.
I am using "3D world stuido to make this level. It will export in A6 map. then you can load it in to WED.

Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/27/08 07:23

Funny how the crits stop coming when they clearly don’t bother you…

In any case, it’s great to hear that you are having fun. I remember when I made my first stuff with A5. It was awesome. If I would have shown it, I would have been flamed, but I was genuinely having fun.

Now on the other hand, if you are looking to sell 3d stuff then this shouldn’t be your first product. This should be a starter that you can use to build skills for future projects. Truth be told, there is a lot of free content out there that is superior.

Once your skills have advanced, you can work on a new castle. Next time gather source material, pictures of castles and floor plans. This will give you a better ‘feel’ for proportion and style.

Keep having fun!

Or maybe because he hasn't posted anything new to criticise.

Re: castle_pack ( the beginning) - 11/27/08 17:39

2 Things.

1st you still gotta learn a lot about using blocks, you got a lot of intersections because you don't (yet) care about how you put your blocks together.

2nd a castle is not just 4 walls and 4 towers, that's how children draw castles, search for material and create something that looks like a castle. ;-)

Hi all,
I did get a little done over the week end.
Here is the Keep:

here is what it looks like in the keep( can you find the gun ports?)

This is looking at the gun ports outside of the keep, looking into the keep.

This is the very small door going into the castle housing.

This is the first arch I made.

So that is all for now.
I am sure you all will have alot to say. I hope so.
