Assault! is a Multiplayer 4VS4 Third Person Shooter. You will take place on the battlefield as a Marine Soldier or Resistance Soldier, your goal is to eliminate the other team.

-Now you don't have to enter server's ip always you want to play, instead I'm using an dyndns host (assault.dyndns.org) and the server id is saved in settings panel, which you can change to your friend's ip if you want to play a game in another server.

I played demo and looks really good. Great work!

About bugs, camera sometimes go into walls and jump need some inprovements. Also when player jump and we hold space key, player moving but without animations, you must reset jump there and call again walk animations.

Professionnal quality !
The level is a bit squarry, but it's A8 laugh

Some tip:
The red girl sprites, pop ups a lot compared to all level graphics ! perhaps make some scratches, paint degradation on some borders and parts ? or reduce is color brightness to match the level lightening !

Anyway great game, just hope to see some working download link laugh

The camera penetrates walls if the wall is on the right of the player.

Well very very good. Very good use of 3DGS.
I presume the garage level is made of BSP ?
I think you could gain frame rate by usig models and lightmaps no ?

Well , i just give you design critics, my own ones !
I'm not some pro level maker laugh

- Red girl sprite : it is too much visible it is a sprite seeing the straight cut on the bottom of the prite :
Use alpah and make some gradient to make it blend more naturally on the wall

- Outdoor, the cut sema between grass and gravel is too visible : put a line of stone or bricks to hide it !

-The HAlo car strange , even tires don't match laugh

- Why not using some shader on cars , to make them better, their flat painting make them pop up from the level !
PErhaps just bring down their luminosity of their texture to match the level lightening ?

-Same thing for crates :
lower their brightness, and bake some shadows on their texture.

Well i know you don't use normal map shaders with spot lights that could solve all these lightening issues, but by using
smart textures and good brightness it can look great !

I have tested it on my Eepc : at HDMI resolution (yes my Eepc have an HDMI port) : 1680*1050
I have not put HDR , and the game runs really great !
Not smooth but great, even more for a game made with A8 laugh !


You could make a longer garage level having depth like several
floors under the ground ? or longer ?
By using region detection code you can optimise the game also ! Or clever LOD on the cars !

thanks for your tips ratchet wink The level as the credits says is made by Rondidion, I just modified little things, but I will try to improve it a bit. My plan for the future is to add more levels for the game, such as an aircraft carrier, a small city, etc. If someone wants to join the development as level designer or modeler he will be welcome.

MTD you couldn't join game because the server was offline, but now I will open server, if someone wants to play.

Great game laugh Online is Fun.
Found only one bug - Used the cheapest shotgun and "Shot You" - The places where did bullet hit Your player where dark squares.

Yes, I guess is a problem of decals adapting to complex geometry, I will try to fix it.

Yes, it's made with level geometry, but not BSP because I don't own pro version, so it's ABT

Good game!
+ I like way you've done the startup screen.
+ Player's body movement when moving the mouse is good
+ I didn't notice any lag.
+ Death animation looked good.
+ Blood and red screen worked well.
+ Crosshair gets less precise while you shoot.
+ No crashes here.

- There's multiple minor bugs that aren't horrible but stop it from being perfect: I once had the sound of someone elses weapon every time I shot, the kills aren't always displayed right.
- Please leave the chat messages visible. Don't delete them. I never had time to read them cause I was busy killin... and they were gone by the round was over.
- I really don't like how the player moves. I felt like I was hovering, the feet slide, the shadow's weird, the animation is too slow and the strides too long. Also, the footsteps sounded too loud and too much like there was an echo.
- I wanna be able to crouch to get more precision
- It doesn't pull back when I shoot. The crosshair gets less accurate, but there's no recoil.

Overall it was fun. Gameplay was good. Well done!

Great job !
i played the last version , the read car is now perfect, the crates also, all that matches perectly the level lightening.

Theres is just the BLue car (inside it it lacks textures on chairs etc ...)
The blue texture make it look non metallic where it is placed caus it is under lights : put it on shadows like red car or give it some simple environment shader laugh
( I don't like the Halo car it looks out of place and time,
but well it's a game not reality)

Thanks for your tips ratchet, I have added a environment mapping shader to that cobra car:



About the tank, I didn't know it was from Halo, as Rondidion put it there, but I can't find a decent free modern tank model to replace it (if someone knows about one please tell me).


And another great new! I have found the function which caused the crash when some people joined the game and fixed it, so now there shouldn't be any crash.

Sorry, but my PC keeps crashing, so I won't join again.
The weird thing is: these crashes only happen with 3DGS applications (like yours or Surive (the MP-Shooter of schokokeks). I can play other games fine without any crashes.

That was some fun, and no crashes for me this time. Nice work painkiller!

Some remarks:
- Movement still feels not very smooth (maybe I just have to play with the mouse sensitivity)
- Sometimes the player model is in the way, so you cannot see where you are aiming (maybe make it transparent (locally) when the camera is very near?)
- sometimes the kill is not displayed correctly (only who killed somebody or nothing at all)

Its a nice small game.
For me there were some crashes.
But a thing you have to fix is that the player is removed from the server list if he has crashed

I will send two times the player name of the kill panel to be sure it arrives its target. Also I'm adding some admin controls to kick players (to delete crashed players) and a control to manually end the round (just in case that round bug appears again) About making player transparent, I can't do that because he is using a shader so i can't make him translucent.

but the level could be larger and more ways, you always know how the opponent is running.

Great improvements, it's getting along well.

Shotgun reloading: If I reload while there's still bullets in there it used to reload 8 bullets no matter what (dunno if that's still the case).
Also, if I have 4 bullets reloaded, I should be able to shoot, but it keeps reloading until 8 (but by that time I'm dead)...

Level's great.
But I can see the car tires through the transparent window of the car...

I've started to work on another level, so the game will have more than one level which you will be able to choose when creating game

That's because the reload animation reloads always 8 bullets, I'll try to find a workaround.

About seeing tires, that's because that car model has no interior.

I liked the old level as well. For larger teams, the maps must be bigger, but with the ~4 players we played, the size was good. And I disagree, I think there were lots of ways you could go...

- the boat texture i think is just test ? caus it's too much
dark for metal, even more on a sunnny day !
- good textures with some rust, but
everything is metal or painting that emit specularity also !
So you would just need some specularity, even baked specularity will work great !
Well perhaps specularity is for the last touches laugh

-The ship floor texture is the same metal texture as the one in DM_garages, I wanted the boat to have a rusty look, that's why I used it.
-I tried to use normal and parallax specular mapping for containers and floor, but it ate all my fps, maybe I will try another way.

It runs perfectly smooth at 60 fps on my pc at fullscreen. The level will come with new Assault version.

The level looks really good! Love the shading and the texture work on the crates!
Still, the ground is a bit to dark as other users pointed out, but its acceptable.

Really looking forward to try the level ingame!

i played your game agin at the end i had 55000$ and ca.60-67 kills! it was so much fun! i hope that we'll can play in the new level when you relese the next vesion!

Store the pic on a webspace and exchange it(there a 2 versions with the same name but dofferent text), so you dont have to rewrite it over and over again^^.

I think it's not the same as mine. I use a bullet hole free pack from TurboSquid: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/473116

But you can use the ones I have in Assault if you want

These are the results I get on my PC at 1680x1050 (fullscreen) with anisotropy and antialiasing:

With Shadows:
In DM_Garages: 30 FPS without HDR, 20 FPS with HDR
In AS_Ship: 30 FPS without HDR, 12 FPS with HDR
Without Shadows:
In DM_Garages: 60 FPS without HDR, 30 FPS with HDR
In AS_Ship: 60 FPS without HDR, 30 FPS with HDR

Results with anisotropy but no antialiasing:

With Shadows:
In DM_Garages: 60 FPS without HDR, 39 FPS with HDR
In AS_Ship: 60 FPS without HDR, 48 FPS with HDR
Without Shadows:
In DM_Garages: 60 FPS without HDR, 40 FPS with HDR
In AS_Ship: 60 FPS without HDR, 60 FPS with HDR

I have to say that antialiasing is a FPS killer for my graphics card.

Of course I will add a button in settings to enable or disable them.

They are currently Z-Fail Stencil Shadows. The problem of blurring them is that doesn't work with FSAA Plugin, so, or you have blurred stencil shadows and no AA, or normal stencil shadows with antialiasing.

This will become a problem for low end pc. Can you add a box where can you disable the shadows? like with hdr and antialising. I mean in the start up box. Would be nice to improve performance wink

Very smooth code. Here some points to improve:

- it's very hard to difference between team members and enemies. Team members should have the player name or a sign above the head
- Also a team chat would be cool
- A countdown when the game starts

If more than 4 Players on the Server, the game starts to lag. maybe the connection from the host isnt so good, or... dont know xD

That level looks really cool, they are really good modelers, but when you shoot it feels very unnatural. I will follow it.

I'm now working in showing player's name above his head and I want to ask for your opinion. You can see always your teammates names above his head, but about enemies, do you prefer not to show their name (so if they are hidden in a dark place you won't see them) or show their name when they are visible in camera?
