Next gamestudio contest - 08/27/08 20:42

i dont know if i'm writing to right place, but i'm interested, when next gamestudio contest would take place?

i'm working on Newton 2 wrapper, you can see it using links, but... i have some "sweet" and usefull features, i spent a lot of time working on them, so i want to try to show them on contest...

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 08/27/08 21:17

yea a plugin and/or pnp projects(i mean projects like shade-c) contest would be cool.

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 08/27/08 21:28

I'd like to see a A6/A7 game contest again, that way I'll be motivated to join this time. I may be wrong as I haven't been keeping track of the contest lately, but I think the requirements usually were A7-only, right?

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 08/27/08 21:41

he-he... there is a newbie Vasya, after contest he downloads my Newton2 plugin + Quadraxas's shade-c plugin, connect them in correct way and get finished demo-version of his game laugh

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 08/27/08 22:36

The bad thing about all these contests is, that i never get to know when there is one laugh I guess I'm reading the wrong parts of the forum eh? ^^

ot: A PnP/Plugin Contest would be awesome as i already have something i could built up on. And there's a lot of other people who are working on a plugin or some neat scripts, too. I think this might actually be a cool idea smile

ot = off topic?^^

I like that idea as well, but with what should I take part on it?^^ Because something you already know, whould get a little boring, wouldn´t it?
But what else than my shaderframework or the shadows could I sent in? An improved version of my webcam dll or would you prefer a bullet wrapper?
Or should I just send in everything?^^
Anyways, such a contest would definatly be a nice thing wink.

shade-c is Boh_Havoc's wink and it is a lite-c project with lots of cool shaders.

if such contest starts, i guess i will participate with a dll plugin. I didnt pick a area(netwrok/physics/graphics/additional feautres) to make plugin though.

i guess i may go with a plugin that can be used in games that needs a lot of strings(like rpgs? weapon descriptions-stats/quests/story etc. lots of data, writing all to spare text files wont help i guess).

just wait a little, in Newton 2 there were such a feature in last January - there were video, where one brick fall on another and mesh breaks in two parts... now that part of newton craches, but Julio said that he would work on it

Indeed. It is only for AUM readers.
Also, contest discovery didn't almost require download of a few megabytes of data for each issue.

Send the demos before the 15th of November 2008; we will upload them to Acknex Unlimited and we will open a user ranking thread at the forum. By submitting your demo(s) you declare that:

- the demo(s) can be given freely to all the engine users and / or made available for free at Conitec's websites as GameStudio demos.

The official contests are always posted here as well:

No that one is old, now is the fall contest:
Quote:
Create a demo that impresses the jury and you can be one of the lucky winners. Feel free to use any GameStudio A7 edition or lite-C (even the free version) and submit your zipped entry (or entries).

But what pleases me most, the 1st price has been upgraded smile
Quote:
And what can you win? First of all, a lot of fame and respect! And then, one of these prizes:

- 1st prize: an upgrade to A7 Professional or a $500 voucher that can be used at Conitec's web store (if you already own A7 professional);

- 2nd prize: a $200 voucher that can be used at Conitec's web store;

- 3rd prize: a $100 voucher that can be used at Conitec's web store.

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 09/05/08 09:46

...just IMPRESS them.
"They" always want to be IMPRESSED by something done with THEIR engine in uncounted number of hours (nearly for free) (...to akquire new customers and keep disbelievers).

In the end HEELX will win... sleep if he not tries to cheat (he still burns to get listed again wink )

Secret objective number one:

Hide a picture of JCL in your game somewhere. An inevitably huge bunch of bonus points will come your way if you do this right. wink

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/10/08 17:48

What I think really sucks is that you have to have the latest greatest version of Acknex...

what about those of us who still use A6? We want and maybe can't afford an upgrade, in which we count on the contests to score a version of A7.

These contests really thin out the herd and do nothing to support us long time users.

I think everyone and their mother should b able to enter the contest as long as their version of Acknex supports the contest guidlines (like lite-c)

Just my 2 cents

I would like to see a game contest too, just a game contest not restricted by engine version or whatever. I want to submit PreVa!!! Or if they have it next year, Kino One...

Game Contest!!!!111oneone crazy

grin laugh

@BlueBeast: I totally agree. The problem is that the prizes are always an upgrade to the latest PRO version (A7 pro) or gift vouchers, which don't really help those that already have A7. It shouldn't be engine specific, if you want to make something with A5/A6/A7 (or if you still have A4 laugh ) then it should be accepted as a valid entry.

I agree. And I think it is not that difficult to offer much better prices. Look at the big contests out there. Some related companies could offer free software, 3d models, textures. Conitec only has to ask some of their developers. Maybe Fragmotion, Milkshape, content packs from Dexsoft, 3dTotal or some nice gamedev books could do the trick.

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/11/08 08:38

maybe it'd be better to get prize on the winner chose? of cource, prizes bay be the same price

for me, A7 pro would be the best variant for now

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/11/08 16:00

or just a $500 check for first prize, no gift voucher :P
Posted By: Joozey

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/11/08 22:33

They used to hand out real money instead of vouchers a few years ago. I guess that became too expensive smile. Can't really blame them.

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/12/08 12:24

The value of the prices stayed the same though...

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/13/08 08:55

i would also like to see the next contest be open to all gs editions and not just a7 - lite c smile

Re: Next gamestudio contest - 11/18/08 18:44

That's the point of contests - to show how flexible and great new editions\releases are.
