Am I allowed to post Terragen renders? Sorry if that is a silly question.

Anyway, if I did, I would get owned by the rendering masters, although it would be cool to show off my work anyway.

That backgrond is neat Cellulaer.. i
m tryingto figure how how its done.. it looks to me as if you have a ground plane with a grass textures, some plant models, and then just a simple backdrop that sort of curves around, with the bottom half texture blended into the forground texture. Simple, but sure looks effective in that shot.

Re: The Render contest! - 01/20/05 12:27

Alright, I took the liberty. Some of these are pretty cool, some not so much.

I call this one Africa.

This one always reminds me of Middle Earth

That's enough for now.

It is the Woodland Realm Playset. It is basically a texture on a smooth L shaped object. So it has a floor and a back but no sides.

I took a little bit of artistic license with these (I know that the sun would not be that color if it was that high in the sky) but oh well.

Re: The Render contest! - 01/28/05 01:34

Wow yeah the SciFi movie is hella cool.
Very nice work also, Ello, and Logan, and Light Mystic.
Thanks for the compliments, people.
Braxton; I'm not quite sure what you meant by soft lighting, but, i used limited effect omni lights, and a bloom effect.

Heres a couple of other renders

Re: The Render contest! - 01/28/05 01:36

Renders always look so good with these high quality lighting... I wish a game engine could work like this, but well I wish a lot of things don't I...
Sci Fi Render is the best, great work
Posted By: Braxton

Re: The Render contest! - 01/28/05 08:48

@Spark3D - I meant the lighting gives off a soft looking effect, many people draw this in on their textures.

I still you think Spark3D wins.

Re: The Render contest! - 03/24/05 00:15

here is something i did at work for an event. if you go to the HMI 2005 in hannover (big joke saying this in english) you can see it at 2,70x2,36 meters.

took around 27 hours to render (6378 x 5575 pixels) and 4 hours of photoshop finetunings
ugh i even used blurred reflections which are faded that much. on a 2x3GHz 1Gb Ram. well thats not fast;)

CHB2 in it's simplicity and style, I think your render beats all those Terragen stuff by far.. I'm not saying I don't like Terragen, or the stuff that people posted here, but that terragen stuff only get's interesting once you've achieved the skills of that Luc Bianco guy and besides, how usefull is it? Only use I can think of are skyboxes, but I dunno, with all these shots you'll instantly know terragen was used, so....

All A6, except for the bloom, which was in photoshop because it bombed the FPS in realtime (already 2 render to textures going! a 3rd was BAAAAD, haha).
BIG Render (1360x1024)

Those caustics really add a lot to the water coloring when they are refracted in .

I simply duplicate the image in a new layer, increase contrast and decrease brightness to get the highlights only, then add gaussian blur and place it over the original image with screen blending mode.

Re: ready to use generator - 02/08/06 23:06

While fantastic, the first thing that jumps out at me (a suggestion, if you will ..), is that perhaps the ground would look a little better with some bump-mapping?
Posted By: indiGLOW

Re: ready to use generator - 02/08/06 23:31

Yes usually I would agree with you, however there is a good reason for the lack of bump mapping. The ground and the background grass and sky, are seperate to the snails. The image is a composite, using Matt/Shadow material to cast the shadows.

If I had bump mapped the ground texture, I would have needed to exactly match that bumping for the Matt/Shadow. Again usually not a problem, however in this sequence I have moved the background along, creating the rolling backdrop, so that I can animate the snails, lip synch and so forth, without having to repeatidly render the backdrop, which is pretty memory intensive, taking 1 min a frame to render at best.

Once the animation is composited, I will be overlaying a final 'foreground' layer, with appropriate depth of field settings to wrap up the scene. This should include some additional details to further mask the floor....

I realise you didn't ask me to explain Y.... and I have just rattled on

Thanks for the feedback

Just thought Id add my new render here. Nothing much... originally the sword was based off a tai chi sword... but slowly turned into a more mid evil theme so decided to go with a king arthur type feel... Anyhow heres probally my best render to date... Not sure thats saying much but im pleased.

Re: ready to use generator - 08/25/06 14:51

Thanks, I just used lights to color the image. I was going for a evilish look but didnt really turn out as I wanted tho the gold spot light on the shield I thought looked great so just left it as is.

It just felt pleasing too look at in fact has been my desktop since I rendered it

Heres a few more renders I did... One almost identical to above except the spot light has volumetric effect... I guess thats the word im lookin for.

Re: ready to use generator - 09/06/06 07:36

how'd you create this hammer hair?
Posted By: JibbSmart

Re: ready to use generator - 09/06/06 11:12

it is just a particle effect attached to the vertices on his scalp. normal is set to 0.01, as well as random (so it points in different directions). there are some other settings too of course, but it is based on the early bits of the tutorial that can be found in blender's documentation.

here he has weird eyes, colour and weight on the hair and the hairs fade out at the tips to look smoother. as u can see the "haired" part of the scalp is different and unrealistic, but i was just playing with different effects and learning how to do hair with blender.

Mmmm, the abs area looks a bit strange indeed, too round and the abs themselves have too much depth, but I like the overall look of this.

Re: re: renderContest - 11/20/06 12:25

thanks.. what is the "abs" ??
Posted By: PHeMoX

Re: re: renderContest - 11/20/06 13:18

The abs, that are those muscles you can see above your bellybutton. They tend to call it a 'sixpack', because when the abs are trained, you'll see six shapes next to eachother.

The grey (mostly the upper part) are the abs or abdominal muscles

there's a direct pipeline for vue to MAX, C4D, LW and others.

it's on the very bottom of the page.

Re: re: renderContest - 11/27/06 15:17

Thank you very much.

Yes you can export Vue files to 3ds, lwo and some other format. You can even control the amount of polygons and texture size. It can export sky cubes, models and terrains and procedural generated contents.

It is a nice program. I got it for free with my latest Lightwave upgrade.

Re: re: renderContest - 11/27/06 15:35

wow, thats extreme.. well with my latest cinema4d update i got for free that i cant export animated fbx anymore due to internal changes and that i am not allowed to use the previous version anymore.. from the money i spent i guess its too late to switch to lightwave
Posted By: Machinery_Frank

Re: re: renderContest - 11/27/06 15:47

That sounds not good, Ello. I also have some bad experiences with Maxon. I used to be a C4D user before. I am happy to be a Lightwaver now.
Posted By: broozar

Re: re: renderContest - 11/27/06 16:23

...woa? c4d can't export animated fbx anymore? i just played with the thought to buy c4d 10.. but that's done with it, now.
Posted By: ello

Re: re: renderContest - 11/28/06 10:52

maybe you wait a moment, because maxon is working on this issue. the rest of c4d has improved very much. i encourage you to check the cinema4d forum, to get some more users opinions

btw, frank, i tried to get in contact with newtek quite a few times, but got no response. is this their normal business?
Posted By: Machinery_Frank

Re: re: renderContest - 11/28/06 11:43

Did you contact Newtek-Europe? The American Newtek-people don't want to talk to Europeans and they even don't want our money. We have to order at the European shop that is even more expensive...

... strange world. That is the way distributors rival their territories.

By the way: I bought Bodypaint3d and I am still waiting for the latest version that should be finished a few months ago. But I am patient. I can play with the Joan-of-Arc-tutorial for Lightwave and with ZBrush meanwhile.

hey, raphael,
auf das spiel bin ich echt gespannt. zeig mal mehr, aber vll. im showcase?
Posted By: GS_Raphael

Re: re: renderContest - 11/29/06 15:43

yeah, you got it right. That's exactly what it meant^^

Re: re: renderContest - 11/30/06 13:25

Where is the problem? There are online dictionaries in the net. Look here:
http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lan...n&relink=on
And by the way: "Falten" and "folds" are very similar words. This shows again that German and English languages have the same roots.

No need to mix languages in the same paragraph.

Re: re: renderContest - 11/30/06 17:00

thx for the nice replies!
i will post some more renderings soon!!

@phemox:

@germanunkol:
yes the folds may look a bit overdone (if this is the correct translation) but i created this nice - folds-darkening skin shader ...
