Hello,
to celebrate our new Developer Network we started a contest called "Make something totally useless"!
What to do? You've to create something totally useless, it doesn't care wheter you develop a A& Appplication, something in C++ or even if you create a picture only. Whatever you do has to be for something totally useless. We hope to see some creative ideas.
How log have I time?You've time until the 1st May
What are the rules?- To take part at the contest you've to be over the age of 13.
- If you create a gamestudio application you'll need a fully legal version of it.
- Things from which you think that they can win
- Creative things, no empty Pictures or Applications with an empty dialog only...
- Post only things you made yourself
- Don't post blood/gore/sexual content
- Don't forget the forum rules
What to win?The first winner of the contest gains the limited SceneEditor Edition Codename "JX", the second and third winner gain a SceneEditor Professional.

I can use this program to find how many time I can click per minute, I can even take a screenshot of it which provides me with proof. I can take screenshots of the data and calculate on how many times an average person can click per minute. Which is usefull in game development if you need to create some sort of particle everytime a player clicks somewhere in the game.
Example: Average player click 130 times per minute. This will create 130 of those particles, which you can calculate maximum fps loss.

i actually am not sure why i enterend in this contest because as promised in the last contest, i have already one myself a copy of the scene editor proffessional version, but oh well might as well enter in this one as well
this is the first thing i thought of
its a picture of some random jumbled up cords that i pulled out of a box and took a picture of
also you will notice in the top right corner area i spray painted it black a bit to drop the size by 1 meg

I think someone mentioned this before but..
No matter what you enter, it has at least one use..as an entry in the contest.. and therefore it isn't useless.
The rules say useles..not useless accept for in this contest...bo by creating the contest, and not specifically excluding the aplication of an entry from the definition of useful. You have created a contest which according to the current rules & guidlines, cannot be won no matter if you enter a picture of a particularly worthless politician, or a pencil breaking machine.. it's got one practical application as a contest entry

In yet another attempt to make the cube more useless I present to you...
THE 3 million polygon cube! Here is a cube which is only useful for taking up space. (Mostly because I cant even get A6 to run it) (You get a nexus too small error!) Med will take a full 30seconds to load this useless waste of...cube, so be patient.
Warning!
Med will consume ATLEAST 300mb of RAM to load the cube. (So, if you dont have that much... your page file will go flying up X) ) Just thought I'd let ya know how massive (and useless) it is.
Here is a image for those of you that dont want to waste 89mb of hard drive space on a cube.
At the top of the image is a cutout of the taskmanager, showing the 300mb of RAM being used by med. Also take note of how med cant even render the cube correctly. (The 3d view is a bit messed up)
Now, for those of you that are saying... "Hey! I could use a 3 million polygon cube"... here is the download link.

wow, I am impressed, that thing has really not the base of any known use ...
After I downloaded it, opened it in MED, I tried to move the view, my specs:
AMD Athlon XS 3800+
GeForce 7800GTX
1GB RAM
....
nothing happend, I had to quit the process of MED to close the window
That one is my current favorite

It could be used with a script which deforms the cube using vec_for_vertex and vec_for_mesh and such to make cool dynamicly moving shapes, though you gonna need a very good computer in order to use it =P

i think that you will need to download qbasic to run this little program i made, as i dont know what other programs support this format. dont worry its only like a 100kb or something download

Hmm.. Is there anything else useless than sit in a class, listen what teacher whines and get out of the class without remembering anything of the last lessons..
Also when I can code vb well only in my schools pc. always when I leave the class, I seem to forget all what I've learned..

anything (except 0) to the power of "0" is equal to 1, so unless your IQ (which is put in the equation) is equal to zero (which as far as i know is not possible for a living human being), your answer to "useless" will always be 1

@Michael that is just spamming, you are not being creative making anything and just so you know a full stop isnt useless, you need it to end a sentence
@Marcio This isnt really useless either, this is digital art and many people would be interested in this and would love to use it for something i.e a wallpaper (i think its well done

I know of somthing completely useless, its a mule with no legs. It can't reproduce, it can't carrythings. Thats pretty useless, especially if it has mange.

First of all, you've learned something, while programming it (or RElearned - RElearning is the mother of science)
Second, you had the ability to show it here, and to hears something like:
"Wow, that's pretty cool, and definitely has no use!" or "Oh, come on - It has a wide range of usage".
So there IS no useless thing. If Kohji was making this contes understanding that, he's definitely the winner!

no, your wrong. It is still useless because i am not re learning anything. I know it all off by heart and all it was, was a couple simple lines of code.
And second, by showing it hear does not count as having a use.
Go on test my program and tell me one thing that it can be used for.

Why would you interrupt fair exchange?
You get heaps of attention, and plenty of good advertising value for your "product",
(Is it now complete? How many contest winners have received actual prizes?) and, in exchange, users get decent entertainment value.
I claim that it is a fair trade, as I have found some of the posts in this thread to be somewhat amusing.
Otherwise the thread may be somewhat senseless itself, and seems to welcome senseless responses.
I suppose it's reasonable to try to rein in the direction of the thread to your interests,
but given the nature of the thread itself, it may be futile to try to exclude the "senseless"
or "spam" from a "useless" thread.
If even "fun" should have rules, perhaps there are instances where such rules should be relaxed.

This is my first tutorial. Photoshop for noobs.
Small tutorial about color saving in Photoshop.
To save your preferred colors for future use, you have to create new clear canvas, say 1800x2400.
Select FloodFill tool, then choose your favor color.
Apply it on canvas.
After that - save your work in special folder (my swatches, for example) with full resolution and color (don't save as .jpeg or .gif - you can loose you color. Best choice is a .psd), named as color name (myPureRed.psd, for example).
That's all, if you need your color - open file from that folder, select EyeDropper tool, apply it on opened sample - YES, YOU HAVE YOUR FAVOR COLOR NOW!!!
No credits, no thanks. This is freeware tutorial.
