[Req] Looking for crystal/diamond/etc Shaders! - 02/13/09 15:05

Hello i am looking for those Shaders who has this crystal like and diamond like shaders!
Why?
Because they shine, they are transparent AND they have this flat effect!
Flat= You can see the edges/borders! Normal mapping shader its goroud, means you can see not the borders they are little bit smoothed!
Someone can make one or find/post one here?
Would be very nice smile

umm, looks like you want a shader with subsurface scattering and fresnel effect - I can write this when I have some time, write me an email if your interested - Mike

There are two ways to get the "flat" effect on a model.

1) Add "shadeMode = flat;" to the technique in a shader. The downside to this is it usually looks like crap. It uses the normal of the frist verex of a face for the normal of the rest of the triangle. However, that normal is still interpolated. So it will appear flat, but facing the wrong direction.

2) Unweld the edges on the vertices. One easy way to do this is select the faces you want on ONE flat surface. 1) Copy the faces. 2) Delete the faces. 3) Paste the faces back, they will be in the same place, but not welded to the surrounding surfaces.

...Use the second method.

...Send me your model, I'll unweld the vertices

i cant send 50 models ^^
Well i did to find a shader!
but he wants an environment image!
How can i make an environment image at the actual environment in my game?

Here there is a picture of a crystal + shader!
How do i make such a flat edge effect of my models?

the "real time" ou environemnt shader of that cristal is get how? there is a camera on the cristal?

no you need a custom bmp file called environment!
It has the environment in the level so you can see this environment on the crystal!
But how do i can make those panorama bmps with 3d gamestudio?

right the custom bmp, is capturing the scene each second.. because i cans ee particles are reflect and refracted on the cristal..

to get flat normals you coul also create a object space normalmap with hard normals using xNormal ;D

that or a tangent space normal map in blender with the solid setting turned on. both of those would be good for people using stencil shadows who would need a closed mesh.
