free metal barrel - 10/07/06 22:57

Ok, before i post the barrel's link and picture, then i have to say, that i am not a moddeller, so this is my first model, made from cubes, tell me what u think...

Verteces: 226
Faces: 320
Skin: no
time to make it: about 1:45 (hey, it's my first model, and i made it all out of cubes)

Note: these are unrendered, they are straight out of med, and my video card isn't great, so for real quality, just download it...

ok, here it is flat shaded:

and gourad shaded:

and heres the link

For your first model it's good. I would make the rings arround the barrel more smoother, it's now more of a sharp edge instead of a round ring. Hope this helps you anyway keep up the good work.

It's oke for a first model but I'm now wondering who makes the models from your project you posted in showcase 1

That's really the best sentence I've read to sell your models
Such creativity Manslayer101

agreed
go on. show your second model.
P.S.
I'm a programmer, but like to model something. It's an art and anybody is an artist.

Re: free metal barrel - 10/11/06 02:02

@ frazzle: lol XD , you cant really call it "selling" the model, since its a free contribution, but thanks for the "creativity" remark *sarcasm*

@ all: but as for who does the models, i said this in the preva forum, my partner remains anonymous(in the forums), because he wishes to, but i am programmer, world editer, story maker, art department, while he is moddeller, world editor, story maker, art department. we are partners, we both bought liscenses, so it split the fees that way, so we are equal partners. also, i only post in the forums -_-', he doesn't because he says he doesn't need to yet, however i have needed it because i am a n00b at c-script.

@ Lion_Ts: lol i don't know if i will make a second model that quickly, however, thanks for the comments.

edit: i should have just put it in showcase 1, not contrib.

definitely, you use the wrong tools. i seriously recommend you a deeper look at wings3d, blender3d or, if you can afford it, c4d.

to be honest, my "first" models looked even uglier, then i discovered wings3d and look at my latest artworks and judge: it's only a matter of tools, time, and creativity.
if you weren't creative, you'd have a different hobby.
if you hadn't time, you wouldn't sit down for 1:45.
what's left? the tool. don't waste your time with MED or Milkshape for basic modelling, really.

it's all meant serious and i hope it will help you.

Re: free metal barrel - 10/11/06 19:46

ok, but to tell the truth blender frightens me , i have already downloaded it, but it seems too complex...

Re: free metal barrel - 10/12/06 06:00

i also thought blender was complex and downloaded wings3d. wings3d is quite understandable.
good luck with it and just keep practicing *reminds himself that he doesn't practice modeling himself*... well that's probably why i'm not that good at it

Re: free metal barrel - 10/15/06 15:17

I thought Blender was complex, too, but after a few weeks of using it, I fell in love
By the way, read the quickstart guide - should be a PDF included with the download. I didn't read it, and paid for it

Anyway, nice model, for a first go. My first was a cube, so go figure...

Re: free metal barrel - 10/15/06 15:49

go to google and search for blender: noob to pro , its a great tutorial, and blender will take a couple of days to get used to, but its worth it, I didnt use it for like 6months because i was kinda afraid of it, but i now wish i had just gave it a chance, cuz its really good.

Re: free metal barrel - 10/20/06 12:45

yeh that and the online documentation make it really easy to get into using blender. only the first few noob to pro tutorials are neccessary to get used to the actual interface, and then anything u want is easy to find. go to www.blender.org -> Downloads -> Documentation. there it has noob to pro and the online manual.

blender is great
