[FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/20/07 15:54

Hi!
Now you can choose needed model file just in one click, without examining it in MED or in a model preview application.

I finished small add-on to view real MDL shapes in the Windows Explorer or in a standard "Open..." dialog box: 3DGS Shell Extensions.
You can view small tutorial if want see it in motion.
It is free for all members of Lion's Toys Club.
Model thumbnails are available in any Explorer window:

In "Open..." dialog ("Load Entity..." WED command, for example):

You can configure this add-on in the Control Panel:

Eh, couldn't download it...

I joined, but when it asked me for username/password when downloading, it didn't work. Gave me the invalid flag...

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/20/07 17:59

Guys, this is not a problem.
It is free for members of Lion's Toys Club. Site password and Club password isn't the same (like 3dgs forum password and your password for 3dgs updates)
To became a member you must be a registered owner of any my product. For now you must have the CR Pack at least.

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/20/07 19:21

Great tool! Excellent tutorial.

If I understand correctly, it's free BUT only if you already have bought the CR pack.

Since I don't care if anyone uses anything from my free games the CR pack is not something I would use.

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/20/07 19:37

The same problem with download but great idea!
If this is a FREE stuff, so maybe upload zip to rapidshare or something?

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/20/07 23:40

As he said, this is only free for those of you that purchase another one of his products...

So, yeah... I guess I'll have to wait for this until I [might] buy CR pack...

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/21/07 12:40

Sad that you must buy cr pack to get this. I own A6 Pro therefore no need for cr pack.

you need to look at this policy

Hi, friends!
Now you can get 3DGS Shell Extensions add-on even you are not a member of Lion's Toys Club.
I got big number of emails about my small add-on, so I decided to make it available for everyone. Thank you all, guys, for feedback.
P.S.
3DGS Shell Extensions still free for my customers.
@mercuryus:
3DGS Shell Extensions made in english. The tutorial made on my PC where russian Windows installed, so you saw russian interface.

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/21/07 16:50

Hello,

I am impressed with this it could help me a lot...
I have a External harddrive full of .mdls I have collected
over the years.

1 Question though.. Does this only work with A6 and A6's .mdl7 's
or can I view things all the way back to A5's .mdl4's.

Though I own A6 I mostly still use A5 and wanted to know if this
will work for me...

Thanks,

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/21/07 19:14

I read somewhere (i think) that the tool only works for mdl7, but mdl5 is planned..?
Posted By: Lion_Ts

Re: [FREE] Show MDL thumbnails in Windows Explorer - 04/21/07 22:10

Yes, current version shows thumbnails for MDL7 only and infotip for all MDL types. Next version will show thumbnails for any MDL (IDPO...MDL7). (in the future i plan to incorporate some other formats, like 3ds, too and fix some bugs. You can read about known bugs at the Club's download page).

3DGS Shell Extensions v2.0 - 04/28/07 17:35

Dear friends!
I want to say: "Thank you!" for all, who bought 3DGS Shell Extensions or whole CRPACK. Your payments help me to continue further development.
I made the 2nd version of 3DGS Shell Extensions.

What is new in this upgrade?
  • Fixed 400 models limitation (tested on folders with 1000 and 5000 models).
  • Fixed thumbnails caching function (now folder with 1000 models displays in a ~3-5 sec. for a second time on Intel P4 (1.6 MHz) while Caching is on).
  • Fixed uninstaller bug (deleting of CRED tool icon on the Windows Desktop while uninstalling).
  • All 3DGS MDL formats are recognizable now (MDL7, MDL6, MDL5, MDL4, MDL3, MDL2, IDP2, IDPO).
  • Improved rendering speed.
  • Added user control over the rendering priority (min, normal and max priorities for renderer threads are available).
  • Added automated priority management (optimized for scrolling down Explorer Window)

How to upgrade your old 3DGS Shell Extensions:
  • Close all explorer windows.
  • Run uninstaller of old 3DGS Shell Extensions; sometime you must reboot your system to complete this step.
  • Old uninstaller has a minor bug (deletes CRED tool link from your desktop; you can manually copy this link from your Windows Run menu to the Desktop).
  • Run newly downloaded 3DGS Shell Extensions installer.

Limitations:
  • Thumbnails aren’t refreshing while caching is on.

How to avoid this limitation:
  • You have to manually delete the THUMBS.DB hidden system file in a folder, where you want to rebuild image cache.

All, who bought 3DGS Shell Extensions or CR Pack may re-download new version at the Club section for free.

Have a nice day, Lion_Ts.

version that supports only .mdl7's

I would have just download the one from the
website...

however havn't been fortunate enough to
make it into "the club".

* I voted for .3ds... not a necesity but it does
seems to be one of the most abundant model formats
around.

Help....

I have some how messed up my .mdl viewer.

my .mdl's don't show previews anymore

What do I do?

Anyone?

Maybe reinstall Lite C MED, it really rocks! That way you should get the dependency dlls back.

Re: Freeware version of 3DGS Shell Extensions! - 05/26/07 23:14

Try to re-install 3dgs shell extensions again. 3dgsse Installer have to fix it, I hope. In the next update I'll do special option to fix this issue without reinstallation.
[edit]
it is funny... trying to reproduce your issue. My installed copy of lite-c wan't uninstall properly (manual, and some files still alive).
So, just reinstall 3dgs se to fix this.

I managed to figure it out just hadnt had time to post
yet. I just manually delte any files left after a uninstall.
However I can shake the funny icon it now assocites with
.mdls ....

but thats another issue as when I'm in thumbnail it all works
ok now since I re-installed your viewer.

Thanks,

Good news for Milkshape3D owners - 06/11/07 21:06

There is good news for Milkshape3D owners. 3D Shell Extensions now supports MS3D file format (versions 3 and 4). Look at the shot below:

I'm testing this version now; I'll make it available when implement 2 or 3 other 3D model file formats.
If you are registered owner of CR Pack or 3D Shell Extensions or if you're planning to use full version of 3D SE in a future, please, vote for new 3D model formats for it:

Re: 3D Shell Extensions v2.4 on Download.com - 08/02/07 19:46

Leonid - you know that much about 3d file formats.
You should think about a realy huge converter tool for 3d formats.

I'm shure you earn a lot of money (not only from this forum) if you offer it for a fair price!

Great tool, but it does not work for me! It only screws up the MDL extension in the registry... But no thumbnails at all!
Can you help with that?

Re: 3D Shell Extensions v2.4 on Download.com - 08/03/07 11:52

freeware version supports mdl7 only. try 3dse with any mdl7 file and send me email in case of error with detailed information about your PC configuration and programs installed. George Pirvu has the same troubles on one computer (but don't have on two others ); I'm working on this problem.
