[REQ] Halo Cloaking Shader

[REQ] Halo Cloaking Shader - 01/04/08 01:36

Any one done any work with this subject.

Only ever played Halo for the PC but in there the cloaking effect is exactly whats needed to get a good effect going for GStudio as transparent comes nowhere close to achieving what I am after.

Isn't that like a refraction shader? There is one in Slin's Massive 3DGS Shadercollection: "Massive 3DGS Shadercollection\Shadermodel 2.0\Refraction Shader by oliver2s".

Hope this helps.

Yeah something like that with maybe chrome and enviro mapping applied, I dont know but I did see something I may be able to adapt from the many floating around.
Would prefer vs 1.1 as thats what I can see when playing Halo 1.
Thanks for the heads up

halo 1 just does normal transparency (like ours) if you have less than shader 2.0.

@ Lostclimate, not on my machine it doesnt, it shows a surface transparency in use with no x-ray seethru effects at all, has to be a shader.

yeah, thats what I'm talking about, if its less than 2.0 thats what it will do.

oh, ok - thanks, that should make it easier to engineer I hope.

The guys on the shader forum and Joozey's above spost seem to have it pegged to a refraction type thing for the surface effects so I think I have a good head start now thanks to all of yous

@ Chaotic Dragon, thanks mate but the guys here are just as good, appreciate the willingness to go far on this one.

Thanks heaps ...

It's definitely a refraction shader. The only question is how you'll apply it.

Best option would be to use three frames.

- Render the level without the character.
- Render again with the character, and the character uses the first frame for refraction. Not the best method, but it'll work

Hopefully someone else will have a better idea
