I am Making Models for 3DGS : What do you want? - 02/02/08 10:22
Hi Everyone,
I think I have had 3DGS for around 8 years now starting with A5, but I have never really contributed anything and I think it’s about time I did.
I am an Artist and have been since I was born (I think) and I want to start making professional models for use with 3DGS.
I have made several of my own character / creature models and am pretty sure I can create high quality models for you lot. I will initially be giving away some of them for free and if they go down well I will start charging for them. (Don’t worry, not too pricey, I will make sure they are reasonable)
So, where should I start then? I thought I could just get cracking release a selection of character / creature models I might like but then I had a thought…. Why not find out what would you guys like first?
So I thought I would start this post and go from there.
Tell me what you would like (e.g. Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, Ghouls, Ghosts, Monstrosities, Humans, Aliens) and I will make whatever comes out as the most popular request. (Please note, I will only be making characters and creatures so no requests for cars, guns, etc. Not yet anyway)
All models will have Normal Maps, Spec Maps and Color Textures but I will not be animating them as it is a pain in the A*** ; )

a good and decent "standart" male and female human model would be awesome. You know? That kind of "standart model" you can put into your game when you have no characters at all but dont want to use the weird warlock or cbabe model

I agree with Inestical. Villagers would be great. I would like to see a stocky woman with a handkerchief over her hair and a long dress.

Wow!
So much response and so quickly.
Heelx, Frazzle, you are right, I should post a few pics to show you all what I can do and I will upload some 3d work to my site very soon.
In the mean time, there are a few small examples of my 2D drawing skills in my sites gallery and this should give you some idea of the level I am at in terms of general artistic skill.
I am a bit of a perfectionist and I can assure you I would not produce anything sub-standard or crap. ; )
Well, it seems like the most popular request so far has been for civilians, but I do also think the idea of replacement characters for the wizard and cbabe models is a good one and I really think it would help all those people who want to have a crack at making their first game and want to create something that looks a bit more up to date.
By the way, when I said the first models would be free, I meant completely free to be used in commercial or indie projects for the whole community. I would really love to be able to make free individual models for everyone but I just don't have the time unfortunately as I do have to pay the bills.
I will make every effort to make sure that the colour skin texture is easy to edit so people can make variations and change colours, details etc.
So if we set the limit at 3 free models to be released in to the community for everyone to use and re-use then this is something I feel I can definitely achieve.

I give my vote for this suggestion because I do everything with those models and everyone makes fun of them (I don´t like them either but I often need a person...)

Thanks for the positive feedback Slin.
I think I will get to work on the replacement standard models and I may even throw in a few villagers.
So what do you all think the new standard models should look like then? I do have a few ideas in mind already but any input will be taken on board.

Sorry for the delay on the models.
I have been a bit busy with work and everything else recently so I just haven't had a chance to finish the standard GameStudio models I was working on, not to mention some of the other things I was going to make.
I have been working with the guys at Radakan, making character concepts and a model which has also kept me busy and has given me a few images to show you which can be seen here:

Sorry I haven't responed to anyone, I have been very busy with work recently and have discovered GameArtisans.com where I have been learning from some of the professional game Artists to improve my skills.

Wow, Marcwakefield. That model looks quite gruesome. Good work! I like the dimpled and muscular texture of the blue skin on the shoulders and torso.
