Game Environment 2: Medieval village for free - 07/24/08 13:40

Hi everybody,

as promised with the last game environment: Here is the next one - a small medieval village. This level was inspired by the artwork of Sven Dännart (www.medievalworlds.com). I made all the models myself (apart from the player model, which was taken from the resources page of 3DGS and made by Saskia M. Orliewicz - so credits might be required for this model).
Feel free to use my stuff ad-lib.. no credits required. Hope you enjoy it.

The next game environment will be a dungeon for the medieval village..

Cheers

Thanks to both of you.. you're very kind.. yeah.. the Dungeon.. i've got a concept and the textures ready.. so it won't take too long I guess..depends on my real-life workload.

The screenshots look look very nice!
But when i try to start the wmp, i get a 'damaged at line -1' error.
I've also tried to start the wmb directly, but then the nexus is too small.

Thank you.. I am sorry that it doesn't work for you. It works fine hear. Did you try to open it in WED and increase the nexus?
Maybe someone else here knows, where this error comes from. I actually can't reproduce it here, as it works flawless on my machine.

Thanks immersion

@jam.. don't know.. maybe due to the number of models and sprites? This is something I keep asking myself very often.. (seriously)

Re: Game Environment 2: Medieval village for free - 07/24/08 17:10

because, you included some not-needed files. the files with the .bak extensions are backups of your model/level and not needed.

by deleting bak files and recomressing at highest ratio i made the archive drop to 43 megs from 63 megs.

Re: Game Environment 2: Medieval village for free - 07/24/08 18:33

most of the models don`t seem to have any textures?

Re: Game Environment 2: Medieval village for free - 07/24/08 18:41

?? What do you think, where the textures on the models in the screenshots above come from?
Can you send me screenshot? This I've gotta see :-).. Is it in MED, where you see the models without textures?

You're welcome Quadraxas

Thank you Frank... always adore your models.. so this means something to me.

Dear jigalypuff..
geeze.. I have never seen something like that.. really strange.. I am glad you could rebuild it and it is working now. Sorry 'bout the framerate.. I always seem to cause this problem.. things run great on my machine (which is in fact a standard Acer machine.. nothing special..) and other users seem to have this framerate problem.

As far as I see, it is just a huge collection of models combined to see them in a fitting environment. Not meant to be an optimized level.

To optimize the fps you can do several things:
- First: switch off the stencil shadows.
- Second: look in MED whether the models already got mipmaps - if not, this is just a click away.
- Then, you could save almost all of them as mdl5 - that could save at least memory.
- Another step is, add '_0' at the end of the name of all models (f.i. man_0.mdl) except the houses and maybe the trees to get LOD working, then play around with the first LOD value, to see which results you get.

Re: Game Environment 2: Medieval village for free - 07/24/08 21:28

Thought that it might be useful to add animations to the 'living' models.
Found a bvh, that I already imported via fragmotion into MED that I connected to one of the knights.
Rincewind, I hope you don't mind that I post it as an addition to your contribution pack in this thread. (No credits etc. required from my side, the bvh's are free and free available in the net and much modified by me.)

Hello Blink,

you're right, it is an A7 contribution. I could actually recompile the level as A6 and post the link here after the weekend.

Thank you Frazzle.. always good to hear from you...

Cheers
