Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/26/03 08:27

i am working with some of my 3dgs friends on a just for fun ghostbusters project (Non profit)

As i am a big fan of the original movie i decided that its
time to have a real game about it not 2d not a shooter no
a real GB game.

More info can be found on my site.
For all the youngsters that dont know GB have a look at some movie clips there make sure you rent the movie as its still cool.

For those that would love to see a third GB movie plz sign the petition.

Have fun on the site just follow my signature

Realspawn out.

Sweet, nice proton beam.
I'd like to see the Sta-Puff Marshmellow man.

I remember the NES ghostbusters game. It sucked.

It looks from the pictures that your game is about the second movie.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/26/03 12:52

I use to play the GB rpg ( among many other rpgs) and thought much of it would be fairly easy to convert over to a crpg. just too lazy to try it myself :P

hope it works out would like to see it.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/26/03 15:50

Wow, great stuff! I love ghostbusters and its about time. And I'm glad you're going to include the catch ghost formula. I don't remember seeing that in a game since the old atari ghostbusters game, which I still enjoy. From your screen shots it looked like you were basing it mostly from the second movie. Are you also running through the first one? In my opinion, that was by far the better movie.
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/26/03 23:31

Let me explain dudes the game will be no RPG
It will be a full third player view game.
The ghost catching will take place as it happens in the movie. So it's no simple shooter.

Also you be driving the ecto-1 car though the city

my goal is to make GB a game it deserves and not those dum
2D rpg flat simple games/mods thats been out there. You not killing a ghost you trapp it.

Short storyline based on old commodore 64 game :

You own a ghostbusters franchise
the bank gives you 50.000 dollar to set up your busniss.
You have 5 months to pay the bank back.

The screens you see are like well test settings. there no full levels more like a studio settup to show stuff.

Ghostbuster model is in the making aswel as the proton pack and gun

The game will have actual sound samples from the movie.

The game will use part I as baseline but you see how some setting could make you recognize other things.

Happy gb

So yeah the : Sta-Puff Marshmellow man will be in there to

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/28/03 01:46

great idea from you to make such game, and the screens looks realy good!

erm but one question offtopic whats about the licens doesnt you need one?
Posted By: Turrican

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/28/03 01:52

great!! some time ago i tried to make a gb game on my own (in fact, i tried it four times on three engines ). i never finished any of them - but now there's realspawn!

please tell me if you need help in any way, i won't make it into the main team cause i don't have enough time, but i could support you with level- or modeldesign, 2d-art, scripting, music or sound-fx (i'm pretty good at all ).
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/28/03 03:39

legally we dont need any licence since its a non profit
fan game as stated on the website. However some friends i met at the ghostbusters forum made like a very simple GB demo and asked permison to sony to sell and they got it

so i am thinking if this turns out real cool to send the demo to them.

Anyways it will be good portfolio stuff

yes
this looks awesome, i cant wait for the demo
anyways i dont think they should make a third one because theyd probably just make it really crappy and make the whole series look bad.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/30/03 20:07

hi realspawn,
as i am playing in a heavymetal band, i have an offer for you and your game. we once made a heavy guitar adaption of the ghostbuster song. i have to search for the records or we record it again if you are interested in it (if so fell free to pm or mail me)
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 10/31/03 13:57

Hey ello thx for the offer but since it will be movie based fan games i will use original music score for it.
Feel free to post your song i am curious to hear it.

Here's our cool GB character made by fuxer and i think it rocks

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/01/03 11:26

I would just like to add my thanks to Fuxer for helping us with this game. As you all can see, he's a great modeller and i think he's doing an awesome job. Great work Fuxer!!

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/03/03 02:07

um the ghostbuster movie clips are out of perportion
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/03/03 02:12

the movie clips are in right proportions it depends how you
play them in your media player its wmv so media player 9
plays it without problems.

Any more with this problem ?
However its not really important as they are just movie clips to make people familier with ghostbusters

Posted By: weirdo

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/03/03 02:27

your going to get better music for the game arnt you
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/03/03 02:34

?

ingame music will be original ghostbusters score
so i dont understand the question as nowhere on my site
you can hear ingame sounds ?
If your refering to the midi tunes on the site their just
fun decoration for the site. But they are based on
gb movie score.

A quick update here:

Fuxer is still doing a great job, and has started work on everyone's favortie Marshmallow Man!

Also a cool shot of Slimer getting caught in the Ghost Buster's beam:

(Note: theres a small bug in this screen shot which has been fixed)

Stay tuned for more!

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/04/03 05:39

Mr Stay Puft ist nice so far. But please compare it to the original action figure:

I think the proportions of head/body should be overworked - as well as the arms.

Anyway; every model I've seen yet looks great! Especially the ghostbuster - so detailed! It's amazing!
Will you implement the original movie faces? Would be nice. So, the model would have to be tweaked a bit for every actor. Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston - all are looking different regarding body, height and "shape" of head.
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/04/03 07:32

Turrican we have that picture to aswell as inmovie screens
The puft you see here is a 10 minute model draft.
I think it's cool but its a 10 minute concepts
as i am typing this fuxer is allready changing it into good proportions and all so expect an excellent mr pufft soon.

(more then 10 minutes work:)0

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/04/03 07:47

WOOHOO the sta-puff man. Wonderful!!

Remember, he explodes and coats everything in marshmellow fluff.
And in my opinion, The sta-puff dude should be a boss, not a minion. But I'm sure you'll do him right with whatever plans you may have.
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/04/03 09:19

i am still working on all game issues so be sure the

too strong shadow contrast, lighten it up
maybe the curtains as TGA so it has no edges

Keep on working...and please FINISH the game

the lightning will be fixed in demo these are early level shots.
Also the exit signs will have lights so expect the black
parts to be clean
We hope to enter the contest but i cant make any promises
we get it dont in time

Mk1 : About the floor being boring hehehehe these is excact
replicate from the movie so blame the movie makers LOL

About the curtain. MDL looks much better then tgs trust me
we tried also this model is going to be able to catch fire in game.

Plants will be in there to

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/09/03 06:04

Wow, great work.

I want to ask which program foxer uses? I wont belive hes doing that in MED. And i wont belive you, that u got the great skin for GB-Character with MED (not the Player in the post before mine, the one really early posted).

Just a little thing to think about:
If u get it complete, and its a fine game (i think so), u are stupid if u dont sell it!
Posted By: DarkShadow

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/09/03 11:40

yes, the screens look awesome. but the issue is, they can't sell it unless they have the money to buy a license. since ghostbusters is copyrighted they would need permission, which i'm sure they would have to pay for.

Posted By: MysteriousLink

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/10/03 01:31

@fuxer

What are u thik about, comparing 3DSMAX 5.1 with Lightwave? Is lightwave an easier program and so on... Tell me problems and how long u needed to be so good. I have Max Demo and dont like it really...
Posted By: puppet_master

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/10/03 01:39

i love lightwave i make all my models there.
as for being better than max...ive heard that the animation in max is better than lightwave but for modeling lightwaves the way to go and then just import to max if you want but i cant stand 3d max its all bodgey
Posted By: fuxerz

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/10/03 04:51

yup thats right.Lightwave is good at modelling but animating characters is a pain.It has an easier interface than max so its easy to use.It shouldnt take that long to learn to use it.Max took me about 1 year to understand modelling but about 1 week to learn character animation.

@MysteriousLink
how long?it depends on your experience.i used lw for 6 lovely years till now but i became good at modelling characters 1 year ago.and i'm only 17
So all i can say is get your hands on lw as soon as possible and forget max for now

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/10/03 09:19

Man those screens look absolutely amazing. VERY professional. I thought the test model would be cool for use in a training area, even though it isn't in the film.

Are you going to be including the ectoplasm left behind by Slimer when he passes through walls/characters?
Posted By: Realspawn

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/10/03 17:04

that ecto plasma thingy is in
for sure.

as i speak jeff our animator is working on all cool animations for the ghostbuster character.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 12/11/03 05:08

i tried to create a cool ingame movie but all capture programs are
really choppy and have no sounds so see this as a slide show that
looks like choppy movie.

Keep in mind character will be replaced by ghostbuster character that will be fully animated. All runs smooth in game and looks excellent so dont
let the movie fool you its just to show you what we have so far.

enjoy

INGAME CHOPPY MOVIE

look close and you see slime on walls when slimer goes through
and the cool trap (no animation yet)

I think he would continue to work if his problems wern't big ones, he didn't seem to be a person that would give up easy. Man I do miss him, I didn't really know him, but I loved his work. Lol, and I thought him quiting as a mod was really bad, no spawn at all makes me sad.

I don't normally do this, but I hope you get sued. Did you even ask for any permission to reused copyrighted characters? Non-profit or not it's still using other peoples work. You did'nt create anything here, just copied talented people and meshed it together into a bad game.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 05/25/04 06:42

Painiac, what a character.
Didn't even read the etire thread and he's already flaming.
I thinlk Realspawn said earlier thet he would ask sony if they had anything against it before releasing it to a "GB fan based" audience for free. As for copying models, I think that all the arwork was created by this talented guys as you put it and they were "based" on the original characters ftom the film.

my dear painiac may i explain to you that aslong as it is a non profit making fan based game no one get's sued.
Also may i point out that there's never been a ghostbusters 3d game untill me and my team made one. The models are made by full talended guys so no stealing is involved unless you can prove your right i suggest not to say this kind of things and do your home work first k ?

Oh, it's Mr. 4 Posts again! Started flamming somone else haven't you?
Painiac why do you have to be such a PAIN! You remind me of that crazy guy, unless you are him.
I am 100% sure that if realspawn is using work that is not his it has a lisense of agreement that he may use it uncommercially, or he got permission from the actual author!

Hi Spawny,

This statement is incorrect. The person that owns the Intellecual Property has the right to stop people from using the IP. You could create a porno version of Ghost Busters which could damage the value of the license. You will get sued regardless of wether its free or not.

Lucas allows Fan created movies of Star Wars. Basically because its cost's to much to enforce its IP rights.

Star Trek is more strict with its fans usage of its IP's.

Disney does not allow any use free or not of its IP's. A day Care center painted Mickey Mouse and other Disney Characters on a Wall. The Day Care center was forced to destory the painting.

Spawny you are should seek some sort of permission for your protection. Do not be suprised if you do not get it. A worldwide free distribution of your game could destory the market for a retail Ghost Buster game. Which would cost the IP owner to lose money, then they would sue.

There was a great 2D Ghost Buster scroller made for the Commodore 64.

I love what you are doing with the Ghost Buster game. I just hope you will not run into IP problems.

You know I'm right. In fact most of your games i've seen since I first bought into a5 are ip right infringment. I guess we'll see, since I intend to report the development of any potential ip right infringing games to the rightfull companys. I'm not a flamer, you will never be game developers copying other ideas. 90% of this damned forum is illegal use of textures, models, images, characters, and copyrighted characters. Has been since a5.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 05/28/04 06:36

Painiac I strongly suggest you grow up, quit your "I work for the pentagon" act because no one buys it. Even if you did last time I knew they don't make the best quality of games. I could throw together a simulator for them in about a week and it would probably look better than there current ones. Everyone here (with a few exceptions) are game developers sorry but you just do not belong here if you want to act all I'm the greatest in the world please find a group the same people. You have flamed one of the most professional games here (Action Bird), and now one of the greatest project creater here (Realspawn). I suggest you actually look in to how much work it takes to make a game and then finish elementry school, then I highly suggest you don't drop out of high school when you get there. Don't bother with college because no one will care if you were in the Pentagon before you were out of high score. GET OVER YOURSELF.

And Mods yes this is a flame and I will take the punishment, but he's getting very annoying.

Hi Dennis,

Sorry I was trying to make two points in one post with very little time. I was trying to Establish that a game was created using the Ghost Buster IP. And it was pretty good on the Commodore 64. Maybe Spwany could look at it to compare what he is doing.

I very much want Spwany's Ghost Buster game to be finished and not have him get into legal trouble.

My publisher is constantly putting Back Catalog IP's across my desk asking for game ideas and market viability. Ghost Buster's has been brought up a couple of times.

Since Spawny has permission to release his free product, and if it remains of the high quality the screenshots are showing. He will probably get alot of people world wide playing his game.

This can have a positive effect for the IP lots of people get a renewed intrest in Ghost Busters and its IP.

The negative effect would be a saturation of interest in a Ghost Buster game by filling the distribution channel with a free game. I know that we would pass on a Ghost Buster license if there was already a free game out there using it. IMHO there is not enough interest in the IP to support a free game and a retail game. That's why creating a free game with a large IP is a violation of copyrights and damages can be sought by the IP owner even for a free game.

Finally Spawny, I love what you are doing, I just want to make sure you are protected.

Re: Ghostbusters to pc in 3D - 11/28/04 23:21

Well i thik Painiac don't know that a lot of people here try to make games
for fun, pleasure , passion and because we learn new
things and tricks every day !
We perhaps won't create Far Cry , but creating a game that pleases you and some people enjoy is great.
That's same thing for little games, newbbie games,
the most impotant is the fun , pleasure of making it and the ideas you share
with people in the forums.

Perhaps Painiac you're not interested in game making a lot i think;
so don't flame other people by any pretext you can find like
copyrights or other stupid things ; and what game have you produced to
annoy people like that ? have you some screens and demos ?

Grow up kid.

Your rank doesn't matter one bit! Some people are experts in other engines and game development and they could know a lot more than anybody else on these boards! Don't think that rank matters that much, everybody on here has the right to speak what they think and what they want to to help a project. For my thoughts on this, ranks should be ignored, they don't really display your real knowldge one bit.

That is very true. Alot of people on these forums have 2 posts but are smarter than people with a 1000 posts. But still "Painy" doesnt sound like he knows what he is talking about.
