Re: Aum 85 - 06/16/09 10:36

Thanks George, great magazine as always smile

Some constructive criticism :
In beta section : the tetxure per terrain block must be a negative numer frown Why have we to use some tricks like the old days of programming ?
Why not be clear and create a new field in terrain properties namde : textures per block , where you have just to put 1,2 or 3 etc ...
Entering a negative value for a number of textures is no sense and no very friendly logical or design !

Same thing for terrain casting shadows; it is a flag in the compiler ??
Would it not be lot more logical to put that falg in the properties panel of the terrain in the world editor ?

They are just ergonomic and interface/workflow points of view !

Thank you for the kind comments and for the feedback.

ratchet: I'm not in charge with the development of the new engine features - I'm only presenting them. Please post your suggestions in the "The Future" section of the forum and I am sure that if several users agree with you, the developers will make the requested changes.

croman: The graphics I've used come from a well know freeware bitmap pack, so they could have been used in hundreds of games.

Hi George,

is the Racing Game template in AUM 85 the same (or related) to the one in the forecast page ?
http://manual.3dgamestudio.net/forecast.htm

Thanks

I'd say it's the same (unless JCL is secretly creating another template himself wink )

Re: Aum 85 - 06/29/09 08:19

Hello George,

many thanks for this AUM issue, especially the car template. Really looking forward to AUM 86.

Some questions that came up (from my total newbie perspective!)
* Can I easily add a second car to the level (with different controls and physical properties)?
* How can I configure the physical properties at runtime (aka selecting different vehicles)

Would be great if this can be covered in the next issues.

Thanks a lot!
Stefan

Re: Aum 85 - 06/30/09 06:33

Hello Stefan,

Adding a second, player-controlled car is possible if you duplicate player's car code. If you only need enemy cars, they will be available in the following template update (Aum86).
Create different sets of variables (different car personalities) and pick the proper set at runtime by clicking one of the buttons on a panel.

Have a nice day.
George
