Selling games via website

Selling games via website - 04/28/09 23:58

Hello,

I designed a simple yet fun to play game (or at least it is for 95% done) that I would qualify as a “cheap game” something that a player may be willing to pay a few bucks for but not more.

I checked the Internet but did not really find a website where one could publish an inexpensive game where the player pays with a CC (or PayPal), and downloads it.

I thought it would be worth our effort to design a website that offers a large selection of inexpensive games (unpretentious, but fun to play)

Questions:

1.Do you think that there may be a business opportunity for such a website?
2.Would you be willing to participate in one way or the other?
3.Would you be interested to publish your game on that web site?

Thanks for your advice – comments

Are you sure?

There are tons of casual games platforms:
http://gpwiki.org/index.php/Casual_Game_Portal

You can add a lot more to this list like:
http://www.gametrove.net/
http://store.steampowered.com/
and much more

I personally doubt that it makes sense to create another distribution platform, except you really have new high quality games or just another more user-friendly experience or you offer everything for free.

1. Always opportunities, its whats done with them that counts.
2. Not really...would make my own site and link to established market nodes.
3. Depends on hit rate, popularity, exposure etc....

1. not without a lot of funding, as the audience is already taken by other bigger companies

2.no, not unless it can prove it can make me money

same as 2

1. with some active advertising, you may become popular. But stop with advertising, and your popularity drops quick.

2. Participate? How?

3. Yes, I would be. Better than letting it dust away on my harddisk.

1. Only with a lot of work and endless promotion activity
2. No. There already are several sites for distribution.
3. No. That's just lazyness as I've already put my game on other sites

Hi Firoball,

I don't know why you would call that "laziness" it is not becasue there are already other sites that there is no room for one more?

I would like to see more sites that are in that business. Would you mind sharing a few limks?

Thanks for you reply

Sorry if this was misleading.

No problem Firoball.
As mentioned before I am considering to launch a website (to offer games free and paid) but before I do I am trying to see what and how others are doing it. Would you mind sharing which websites - publishers you use for your games? The more sites I can view the better...
