Terrain Tools and Workflow

Terrain Tools and Workflow - 01/16/09 17:59

To riff off of Slacer's title, I'm looking for a good terrain generation tool and workflow. I've scoured the forums (in part, thanks to A7oogle -- http://www.dejobaan.net/3DGS/a7oogle/), and have tried many of the suggestions (OB's guide helps), but wanted to know what folks were using recently?

My goal is to build "large," attractive terrains with baked-in shadowing.

Thanks!

I used this one some years ago.
Remember, it was with A6.x that time and the Gamestudio engine has been changed a lot since then.

ALE - Advanced Landscape Editor

Check out the demo, to see if it fits to your needs.

Executing stunts and falling off buildings and breaking bones and counting your breaking bones and then picking up your breaking bones and also flipping people off as you pass them at 70MPH and then passing real close to buildings as you fall off of them. We have a website now. Woo!

Breathtaking!
All you need now, are marvelous landscapes, animation of an unfolding parachut, and a small back looking camera view when landing.

Yeah. We've gotten some really wonderful press from our first press release (http://www.dejobaan.com/aaaaa/media/AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA_January_Press_Release.txt) -- now, all we have to do is to make sure we budget enough for the rest of development.

Still trying to figure out which tool is the best for the (terrain) job. smile I don't mind spending a few hundred on such a tool, if it'll bring us good results.

Very very interesting efforts....and looking really sweet!.
As for the terrain tool of choice?...hey!,it's not about the price tag,it's the artistic ability to create a terrain even with MED;then a good texture work will do the rest....that's basically it. Sometimes we go through these portals of spending $$$$$,buy this tool; buy that tool.99.99999999999999999999999999%
of time we realized later,or after the fact,Oh man!......my point exactly?;use whatever terrain tool you want, start with MED it's free. I wish you guys the best in the final release.

Try out "PnP Terrain Creator", it's really awsome and btw. GS compatible.
