GED-Public BETA Test - version 0.1 - 05/02/09 13:01



A new GED-BETA version was uploaded:

GED_2009-04-23.rar

You must have installed the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package":
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package

This is the first BETA version of the Realtime Game editor (GED).

For installing a new beta version of GED, make a copy of your Gamestudio folder for backup purposes, and then unpack the betapatch straight into the Gamestudio folder. You need administrator rights for installing GED under Vista.

GED will only run with the latest Gamestudio version (public BETA). Please make also a copy of your wmp/wmb/hmp files before you start editing with GED. You can start GED right out of the Gamestuido folder or with WED (FILE || RUN MAP IN GED).

GED will generate a Log file named GEDLog.txt in your Gamestudio directory. If you encounter any problems in this beta version please send this file together with your bug report to the following email adress: weinhold@crew51.com

i have installed the redist, but i still get the error, unable to locate wmpio.dll.

You must install the GED in the Gamestudio folder. Then it works.

If you try to enter ged
without make the mapbuilder
then a message asking for you like to make now
but appear are not finish the second message
tell TODO ...

think not are a bug only a future funtion

I have a problem too. When i compile a Map and than i want to start that map from my script, then GS say: Bad WMB format?

Does any1 why. I use the latest update 7.77

I have the same problem

When save the map from ged then the wmp convert to a bad file format

I think this is because ged only builds the maps in "Update Entities" mode. Maybe your maps were built with an older gs version and ged builds them again, but only in "Update Entities".

Ok. The best solution for me (...now).

Edit your level with GED and then Save it. Dont compile it. Then compile it in WED and all works.

...
Aber ansonsten ist das Tool einfach geil. Mit ein paar Fehlern noch, aber dafür ists ja ne Beta.

Well, been trying since release but it wont start up at all.
Process.
Download.
Installed library.
Installed GED
Opened WED and a project.
Found Run with GED and .....dynamic link library in acknx.dll not found! (windows error sound follows)
...everytime.
So I guess Im doing stuff wrong.
Any hints?

you install inside of the your gstudio7 folder
and you are using the last beta

No. At this time, you cannot add lights. But i hope this will be implemented.

Also dynlight-actions. Because i use dynamic lights, and the models are atached to the action. But in GED the light wont shine.

This is a great addition to 3DGS.
It works very well already on my system and I can see how this is going to make creating levels a lot easier.

Support of dynamic light would make a huge difference though.
Because I think lighting a level is one of the most annoying things at the moment but also one of the most important ones to get the atmosphere right.

One problem I came across so far:
Some objects would face the wrong way after I've saved the level in GED, then moved back to WED and did the reload. So there was a difference between what I did in GED and what got over to WED. Compiling in WED then also removed the change in the .wmb

The GED is really nice in terrain editing, but where is path editor? It is not quite robust to go back and forth between WED and GED to edit path, light, terrain, entity.

Please remind that this is the first version of GED. Maybe later versions will support much more things like light, path, block editing etc.

with sugestion (like road maker, water, particles ...)

I put my models into a subfolder.
GED don't find those models, because wed doesn't seem to be able to write filepaths in the entity properties for the modelname.

Could you extend GED that it also reads the script-file that is set in map-properties and take PRAGMA_PATH into account to find the models when they are in a subfolder?

As a workaround I added my PRAGMA_PATH to include/default.c ... works fine.

will it ever be possible to do terrain painting on a mdl type file since I like to use models for more complex terrain a lot of times, (not talking about sculpting, just painting).

Hi, is Ged suppossed to be slow to 'load and go' or is something missing on my PC?

I had a quick look but because of the loading times I experience, I quickly dumped it.
How ever, it has made my 'build' behave the same as GED build, no confirnmation, just build and dissapear???

I have completely deleted the A7 install and replaced with back up.

Am now going to de install then reinstall A7 to see if I can get the build process to operate normally again.
