Just ordered the Basic Edition for 7,50€. I don`t know the software, but it seems to be very good (Youtube).
What I didn`t understand: Can you just animate and render characters? Or is this a universial animation tool like Cinema 4D?

When you buy you have the options for Personal, Business, School and Other use. Anyone know if it makes any difference which of these you choose?

Cinema is a full 3D render and animation software. You can model, texture, render and animate in it.

Messiah is mainly a animation tool. With a bones system. Plus it has a good renderer. It is not meant for modeling and texturing.

It does the animation job better than Cinema though from what i know. It is specialized at animation needs.

So you can animate models in Messiah and import the animations in GameStudio?

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/09/11 18:52

Yes. It exports FBX

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/11/11 07:28

Paid my 40 laugh Hope it reaches the goal.. Almost there, so hopefully it makes it. Posted it on a couple more sites.
I plan to use this along with Kinect to have a decent mocap solution.

Tiles, while your right it doesn't have a modeller.. You can buy a cheap modeller like Silo and still save thousands compared to alternative suites.

Since switching to mac I have been looking for an alternative to using 3ds max in a virtual machine. This+Silo seems like an AWESOME cost effective solution.

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/11/11 08:31

Yeah, Silo is a nice modeling app. I still model in trueSpace though. That`s even cheaper laugh

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/11/11 11:55

So my question is: Does it properly import animated FBX models? I mean, when I get a character from another artist can I import it there and change animation?

Try to rig, weight and animate in Blender. Then you see your significant advantages wink

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/16/11 20:30

rigging and weighting is great in blender. never tried animating though. (talking about 2.5 betas)
Posted By: Tiles

Re: Project Messiah 5 for 10$ - 02/17/11 11:49

Hm, how can you say that the rigging is great when you never have animated with it? It`s the animation that shows if the rigging is really good laugh

Anyways. The Blender bones system is not really bad. It is somehow up to date and solid. And it is a good and working bones system. So you cannot really go wrong with it. But it has its flaws. It is a bit complicated to rig here and there. What really disturbed me was the IK setup. I don`t really like to create a second skeleton to control the first skeleton. And the need to use floating bones for IK reasons is also something i dislike.

From what i`ve seen so far is that the Messiah Bones System is definitely easier to handle, while it opens up even more posibilities. And better is the enemy of good laugh

What's your impression after using Messiah 5.0 for a period of time ?
Any advantage over Blender animation system ?
Is it more user friendly ?
Does the FBX exporter work with Unity and 3dgs ?
