Browser game like.

Browser game like. - 01/03/09 14:39
Hello,
I just discovered programming(yeah,programming,by discovering lite-c).
I don't know ANYTHING about it.
I first want to learn how to make a game and then create it.
But the type of game I want to make is Club Penguin like,a game displayed on a site(browser game, right?),with those graphics.
I saw some game designs on youtube, but no one seem to be like Club Penguin's ones.
Is that graphic obtainable in lite-c?
Is lite-c inferrior to C,C++,Java?
Thank you for your help!

yeah, you can get that graphic.
But currently you cant run a lite-c game on a browser window.(but i guess this feature is planned, see forecast from menu on the left)
you cant say anything about inferiority, makes no sense, lite-c is similiar to this languages but more specified to use with A7 engine, and not replacement for this languages..

afaik you cant create browser games with 3dgs.
that kind of graphics is obtainable in lite-c but it has nothing to do with programming but with art thing like drawing/texturing and modeling
lite-c is very similar to C++ but it's quite more simpler and easier and i personally love it

i hope this helps you...
edit:: sry quadraxas for similar answer

Ty both for your helpful answers!

Just 2 more things I want to know:
1)is it harder to make Club Penguin graphics then normal graphics?
2)when will they implement the feature with the browser?

The browser feature is just a future idea, and their is no predicted date yet.

for me yes cause i really suck at 2d graphics, but for someone it's easier.
it's up to you. i see you're a newbie to game development so i think you should start small, learn the basics, you cant create a game just yet

I don't want to create a game right now,but if this option(browser) will not be available in the near future there's no point for me to learn lite-c instead of Java(it have browser option).

given your preferences, you should go for Java or Flash. simple as that

Software like lite-c is more powerfull than you would need for a web game.

Thank you all!
But how much time would it take to an experienced java programmer to make a 2d game even more complex then Club Penguin?

Re: Browser game like. - 01/04/09 15:27
you should use the right language for your task. for creating a brwosergame lite-c is the very wrong language. you should look into pearl or php here (well html knowledge is a must for that).
If you just want to adapt that look then you can use the 2D features of lite-c for that purpose

Re: Browser game like. - 01/04/09 16:34
by saying browser-game he is not referring to o-game or something.
Online java game or flash game like.

Re: Browser game like. - 01/04/09 17:34
A game exactly like Club Penguin,displayed on a web-page.
I think that's the most used question when someone wants to make a game:How much will it take?
Not only the programming, the drawing of the characters and the modelling too.
So,how much time would it take to make it ALONE,just when I archieve good-knowledge about programming in Java?

The time depends much on your artwork skills and how fast you can program, so it can not be estimated beforehand.
I havent tried it myself but I think you can already put lite-C games on a web page with another program, like this:
http://www.osakit.com/

Yea osakit works with GS, thats nice to know, it does kinda chop up the game a little bit but a steady fps of 150, but this was only tried on my computer were the game is located, didn't try up loading it to a active web page yet.

As I said,I'm new in all this programming stuff.
I have many questions..
Can I make a 2d game combined with a 3d one?
Any moving entity 3d(animals and humans) and the environment 2d?

Re: Browser game like. - 01/04/09 20:42
Its possible, you have 2d in every 3d game just about(panels for one), but like any language out there you can't just pick it up and master it in the same day. that's including lite-c and any browser based language. I started flash last year and im still no master, granted it is an easy language to an extent. Like any language you have the easy parts and the hard parts with lite-c if you have no programming experience it will not be "very easy" but after a while it will get easier. That goes for all languages. You asked about java also, i would say don't start with java. Java is a strict language and more browser games are made with flash and php. To make a game like club penguin which is a mmorpg, you would need experience and it would take alot of time and planning. Alot more goes into a game even as simple as club penguin, and then even more if you want that game to be able to be playable by more than one person, then even more if it needs to communicate with the web browser.
Basically what the point is when you start and language what ever one you pick don't go in aiming to make the next mmorpg sensation pulling in a 350 million dollar contract with Disney or your gonna get disappointed quick. I am sure every programmer is going to tell you this also, start small. As for the amount of time it takes to make a game like club penguin, that would depend on art work skills, programming skills, and problems you encounter along the way.
So the answer if you could create a game like or better than club penguin, yes its possible,BUT is it a realistic goal when your new to programming, no.
that's my opinion. Good luck with what ever language you decide to go with.

Re: Browser game like. - 01/04/09 20:57
I am not gonna start to build a game like Club Penguin while asking every day what should I make next.
I am gonna create a mmorpg like that when I really master programming.
I know it depends, but I don't want to make the game alone..we will be around 3-4 guys,we all are good "designers"..
So,how much time would it take?
I'll tell you my idea:
A 2d city with 3d characters(your character),pretty large,with buildings(2d) where you can enter and play different 2D games and 3d games.
Also night/day effects.
You have "missions" or "quests",you can buy different items from the shops and chatting with other players.
Finally,you can have your own house,in an appartment or a house(both 2d).
I may write here some impossible stuff, but correct me and answer me question, please.

Some answers?

Re: Browser game like. - 01/05/09 21:24
no-one can know how much time you'll need, not even you

you need to know what are you cabable of doing, your knowledge of programming in lite-c, artists skills. you'll need to start working and then see how the things are developing

Hang on, if you are planning on using java or flash why are you posting and expecting replies here?
This is a lite-c forum, for lite-c stuff.
