How to write a 2D game using 3D functions ?? - 01/21/09 20:30

Say I wanted to write a 2D Space Shooter game but using appropriate 3D functions such as c_move, how do I start ?

My assumption is to set a camera above a panel or a flat level and just use the x,y co-ordinates as necesary. Is this correct ?

Thanks

Sound about right to me, Im just not sure about how collisions will work though.

Also, keep this in mind, its very applicable for 2D games.

If pan and tilt both are 0, but the roll angle is nonzero, the sprite is always perpendicular to the camera. This is useful for spherical objects, like fireballs or explosions. For an angle to be nonzero it's sufficient to set it at a small amount, like 0.01.

How about you dont use any of the c_moce, rotation, event or collsion functions at all, and use plain selfmade code...

Then you use the 3d engine just to display the objects.

Thanks

Did't like the AUM81 article but the other one the article refers to (AUM78) is great
