But I think you answered this before but what do you mean by "We hate fun!" ? Since I assume this is a German company and "hast" and "hat" and words like that mean "have" , I can see where you could make a mistake spelling "have."
However "have" and "hate" are two completely different words. If you did "hate" on purpose, I would still try to change it because that doesn't sound good for a slogan for a game company.

I like it, don't change it. Give it a few minutes of thought from a game designer's point of view, it's a lot of hard work and takes a lot of time. So many of them will depressingly say "we hate fun"

You can see and even play the current alpha version of glider on the gc in the next week. After the gc. the publsiehr will deside _when_ you can play a demo version.
How many players:
Currently the game can run with a maximum of 8 players.

Very nice work guys, I have to say. The screenshot were 'ok', but seeing it in action, it looks totally awesome. You might want to edit your video a bit tighter though. The item listing is a bit boring. Also, what really bothered me was the animation of the little guy that ran over the terrain. I would cut it out of the video or improve the animation.
All in all, nice job!

- Personally, I think the "color-explosion" is too big (you cant see the real explosion so good), but I guess thats my opinion only

- And - but I am not sure on that one - it seems the shadows wouldn't become smaller on greater height of the ships...
(Shouldn't Glider get an USK12? How do you want to get that while people ran around in panic and you can kill them?

)
Anyway, that are all just very small issues. It looks great, seems to be a lot fun.

umm I don't know about you.. but usually when i see a GAME company advertising with a tagline like "we hate fun" it isn't a major turn on for me.
just my two cents... Glider looks good! I look forward to buying the full version.

I think they just want to be different, and standout in the gaming community. I'd be curious to see the products of a game company who "hates fun"
... and then maybe want to buy something after investigating.

Very very nice. I liked how the ships had a smoke trail behind them. Could do some serious sky writeing with that!

Ya know, after programing for a while... I guess it would make sense to say "I hate fun". Just because somthing is hard to make. (Or hard to make fun!) (Lots of fun when the code dosent run correctly

) I personally love the game and slogen!

He watched the video... why try to start something when someone is giving a exciting and kind comment about a games video?
I mean, watching a game in action is just about the same as actually playing it. Except, you can't control the movement/actions.

that was nothing but amazing. Almost everything was flawless. The hud showed enough information and let enough of the action to come through, the ships moved silky smooth even on collisions, the level design seemed great.
My ONE and ONLY gripe with the video was the shots with the people running around on the floor. Their animations seemd looped wrong, and they were floating in the air on some of the ground shots. However this gripe I have may be totally overlooked mainly due to the fact that the ships will be blazing around the level and the people may look just like trees that are moving, from a distance.(ents

)
Plus many games have things where inconspicuos elements are lowered in quality to increase frame rate:
1.Zoom into the people in Black and White 1 and youll notice they all have giant feet, and they can walk through certain buildings.
2.Bring the camera down to the griffon ryder in Warcraft 3 and his ankles are just a texture on his griffon.
3.Since the camera was always reletivly far from Snake, "Metal gear Solid" for the Ps1, robbed Snake and almost every character of their eye textures, and just had a dark spot where it should be.
This is a minute detail and dont let this take away from the video. That is excellent work.

The trailer hardly reminds me to unreal tournament in space ships. Are there any differents or equalities to unreal tournament? For example how much health the players have. More like counterstrike, that even three weak rockets can kill, or more like unreal tournament, that you need around 50 shots with weak guns.
And how about the collusion damage (mainly with walls)? More like wipe out, crash and scratch as much as you like or some realistic collusion (like frontal = deadly and scratching = heavy damage (star fox on hard mode

))...

Is this the same glider that won the 2002 contest by Conitec? Where have you guys been for 2 years? It's like you appeared back on the forums with your game out of thin air. I assumed the project got caned or moved to a diferent engine which is fairly common but I guess I was mistaken. Anyway looks great I love all the particle effects.
Two minor concerns I thought needed mentioning:
1. The game looks like a space shooter type but the zeplin floating over the first level in the video looks out of place in the futuristic atmosphere
2. The temple level looks kind of futuristic egyption style (Star Gate) but the cactus are generaly associated with the old west (cowboys and shoot outs at the corall)not somthing that would be growing outside a futuristic pyramid.
Those things aside looks like its gona be a top notch product and good luck to you and your team.

We know about the people problem. But we use them currently only as place holders. We'll update the models within the next week's.
hitting the surface:
The higher the speed the higher the damage of the glider when hiting a surface. Also you'll 'bounce' away from the surface. Due to the splash damage of ervery weapon you can do nice 'rocket-jumps' thorugh the level -> ut/q3 and so on.

Makeing the movie:
We'll play the game in low res.(320x240) set the maximum framerate to 25fps and locked the frame count to 25fps, too.
Then we start the 'movie' funtion which capture's every frame a screenshot. All movie screenshots together are ~5.6gb big. After that we'll import every screenshot 'session' to one bi avi file and cut them together.
BTW. you've not seen all 'special' scenes of the movie. We'll show a special trailer on the gc. After that we'll upload the new one

First off, great work and even better that this is getting completed! You are crossing the first hurdle that most (over 95%) never cross.
Many people have posted great things about Glider and the video you posted. And, while I think your effort is outstanding, I would like to add some comments:
1 - No matter the inside joke, dump the "We Hate Fun" tag line. It is too easily misunderstood (as can be seen by the people that have brought up this point here in this thread). I personally think it is a real turn-off.
2 - The video is too long. Now, I am not really talking about "time" but more about content. For example, you have a section called "The Items ..." . Like I really want to watch almost 40 seconds (I timed it) of power-up balls rotating on the screen. 35-40 seconds is an eternity when it comes to something like this. When I first saw this section I was so ready to move on to the next one ... So, either shorten this or somehow make it exciting (more "action" or motion or something).
3 - The ships section: The ships look decent. They could stand to have a better skin on them. There is just something about them that doesn't make them "pop" (IMHO). As far as the video is concerned, it would be cool to do something like make them fade from a wireframe view to the fully textured model. I suppose what I am saying is that just watching them rotate in black space is not all that exciting.
4 - The Maps: You guys did a much better job with this section of the video. It is much more interesting to watch. Even so, I still feel it could have been a bit shorter. After all, people watching this are going to want to see the game being played. Still, this was good and fun

5 - The last section is very good. I love the movement of the ships. Very nice. On the other hand, the particle affects look a bit off. I especially do not like the green explosion. It looks 2D, fake and just does not fit in well with everything else (IMHO). That ship with the round tanks really looks like something that could not fly. I really like the power-up balls (or whatever they are) following in the path of the ship. For some reason I just think that is cool

. The people models ... they look so out of place. They don't look like they are animated well and the modeling/skinning looks like it could be improved a bit.
Well, overall, this is one of the best to come out of 3D GameStudio! I hope you don't mind the critique. I see that everyone here was patting you on the back (and I am as well), but I thought I would offer up my thoughts and I hope they help!

The HUD looked cool( at least the center circle and the navigation arrow)
The thing I liked the most about the game was the trails behind the gliders. I also liked the loops and it seems like the player will have precise control over his ships, the explosions were very good I thought.
Without playing it, its hard to test the other features such as ai and gameplay.
I am sorry I have to agree about the slogan, it is "cool" in general, but it doesn't fit here IMO.

2.) We now that. We've uploaded a shorter version of the movie/without the bad->long item thing).
3.) It's the wrong way for this kind of movie. To play arround with the wireFrame of a ship the landspace and so on we'll need more time. Effects like this will be implimented in a _real_ trailer. This thing is "far" away of a trailer. After we'll implimented some nix graphic effects(water and so on), we'll upload a _real_ trailer with nice fadeing effects and so on
5.) The "man" topic is currently answered

Besides: The people modell is around 4 years old(one of the first glider models). We've no modeller in our team, so we must take this old one
The explosion thing is fine-tuneing.

I've got a working version of steempipes water shader with a few mods that I made to it that should probably run on your target hardware. It doesn't look near as pretty, but it still looks halfway decent

Glider is really nice, i had the luck to play it a th GC, it was fun!

Only the movement seams a bit slow to me, it could be a bit faster, like when you are in Boost Mode.
So keep up the good work, but DONT make the mistake and let the developing end in a never ending Story.
Focus on the main things and release it, dont take another year, i think it will lost the intrests of the publisher with
every month you take more.....

I never did see an explanation for the reasoning behind "We hate fun" while game devs may get it, the odd people who don't practice the great art of game deving still greaty outnumber us (that is until I conquer the rule and place game devs in charge

I don't think it is that at all. I think that most of us here realize they like fun or they wouldn't be developing a game, etc. When I suggested dropping the "We Hate Fun" tag line it was more for a marketing reason than anything else. It just is not a good idea to state you "hate fun" when you are creating a game and it is generally not a good idea to use a word like "hate" anyway as it just sends the wrong idea. Besides, irony or not, it is just plain dumb (IMHO).

Besides the fact that no one at GC cared about this slogan I donīt think that it will be visible on the box in which the game will be contained. And even if, there will be $MARKETINGOFBIGCOMPANY who tells us if this a good idea or not. For the time being, the we-hate-fun-slogan stays. EOD.

The problem with you guys is you seem dead-set on not listening to anyone. Suggestions have been made here and instead I see a lot of reasons (excuses?) for not changing a thing instead of listening and actually considering what is being said. Sorry if this seems harsh, but it is the impression I am left with.

"We slurp snot!"
"We kant spel!"
"Knee surgury is fun!"

hehe... The reality looks very diffrent. Most(All) publishers we've talked to were very happy about the slogan.
It does not make any sense to me to talk about the slogan anymore until someone from "above" want to change the slogan.

While it is pretty unfitting to talk here about a company slogan, it does work - perfectly.
I have not seen a single other slogan postet here in the forums getting such an attention. Whether you like it or not - you pay your attention --> slogan successful.
A common way to make products better known. You can see disgusting commercials nearly every day. Now guess, about which commercials is talked in the canteen next day..? Certainly not about those commercials disappearing among many others because they are... COMMON.
Think about it.

They know what we mean, but they want to demonstrate the opposite until they fail (that can take a lot of time), or they did it. We only can wait and maybe get surprised one day...
Some last words of me to this problem: I got that joke at the first time, but it is the wrong place for me. For me itīs more like the tag in a video game magazine which wrote, this game must had been created by gods. Yeah the game was well done, but compared to other games it was just crap (final fantasy 7). If you write we hate fun and I know games which are more fun, then the joke suddenly turns real. But that is only one example for how ironie(ironic?) can trap someone.
And at least on every joke is a little bit truth (one more trap). Your game wonīt be the incarnation of fun. But so far I like it (except the slogan).

I get the joke and so does all other game devs. As stated in my post though game devs are greatly out numbers and "normal" people probably just won't get it. Considering all the people who think making a game is an easy as snapping your fingers it IS a bad idea to have a slogan like that. Also gamedevs get the joke "normal" people won't. And most gamedevs really are busy with their own games and don't really buy all that many non major games (based on stats from various sources). So please consider it

OR you could keep the slogan and have a publisher turn you down as publishers will NOT take the time to tell you to change something if you are not a great game

they will just add you to the keep up on in a year list and ignore you, sad but true.

All I can say is WOW !!!
I surprised myself going "Yeah" while watching the video. I'm not a big fan of this genre, but I might still buy it when it comes out, simply because it looks fun to play.
To those who don't like the slogan:
when was the last time you bought (or didn't buy) a game based on a developer's slogan? ......Oh pleeaaase !!!
P.S. Cool slogan. It shows you have some balls.
The primary part of glider is it's multiplayer part.
Besides that you can play with/against bots -> like q3arena.

For people who hate fun, you do a good job of making it.
I enjoyed the video. I almost quit downloading it as it wouldn't download faster than 50kbs and I was getting impatient. Glad I stuck it out.
