Demo available soon - ' Mind’s Eye' - 05/24/05 19:09

Hey everyone, I just wanted to actually make a showcase post. Most of the work I see here is top notch so I haven’t made any post of my own work out of fear of how it would look and be received. But I figure why not, I’ve been setting on this shots for probably two months and I guess I should make a community showcase of it. They are from my current project, it’s geared for causal gamers so you will not see any shaders , sorry, I felt that holding back on the shaders gave this particular title more potential audience so I decided to forgo them. Even without the shaders it achieves the look I’m after and I hope you like it. The demo will be entered in the spring contest so you guys will be able to check it out then. Enjoy!

Yeah sorry, for that.
A bit of game background, it is a marble style but with a twist. You play a wizard that controls the stones through a “mind’s eye” spell in order to penetrate the defenses of three separate magical tombs that house sacred artifacts. You also have s few handy magical spells you can use to influence the stone and help you out along the way, including a levitate and speed boost plus a couple other more specific spells.

Well that’s the quick run down; again sorry I didn’t get that in there up front

lol, I was going to say the same.

Some of those textures look almost exactly like they're from quake3.
And the levels style is definately ID's style.

Nice work!

Great ambiance! Think this is going to win a prize. Only thing: Try to work some more on the marble, maybee with alpha skins, maybe even give them some uv-speed or multiple skin animation...maybee you already got your ideas and I'm talking rubish...anyhow exellent work!

A bit dark but nice atmosphere.
Have to agree that the 'marble' needs a little more work, perhaps a faint glow sprite around it?

Or a sort of metallic effect would be cool. Ooo or a shader so it looked like the ball was changing shape all the time, like it was a "solid" ball of mercury. Looks muchos cool though!

Thanks all! I have taken into account your suggestions about the ball look and have started working on some new schemes for it. Thanks for the input! I'll post more shots when I get it all updated.

Ooo, I really like the levels. Even though they almost look more for a FPS, they are really good.

Marble games are becoming a craze amoung indie developers. I think your marble could use some textures... It looks blank, no shading or nothing.

edit: woops, forgot to mention that your level design is pretty cool. Nice work.

The Screenshots looks very good.

Because I want to play this game, is there a beta version demo for download?

Thanks

That is some amazing work there MentalAbyss. The level design is fantastic, the particle effects look great, and the general game play concept is pure artwork!! It's also very brave of you to admit that you were afriad to post because of how people would respond to your work.

You have done a really GREAT job!!! Keep up the good work! 5 stars for you

It's beautiful. I don't know what it is, but I think it could make a good nightclub.

Re: Demo available soon - ' Mind’s Eye' - 09/23/05 23:38

It’s been a while since the last update, I’ve been busy working in new maps and new elements for game play including powerups and HUD elements and new entities for the maps. Good news is that two maps are now in beta stage and everything looks to be lined up now for full blown Level design work as the core game mechanics are now in place for the most part. The first level has not changed that much just with the new items, chest and coins placed. I’m putting up a few shots of it just so you can get an idea. Most of the shots are from the newer map. The second map is in the same tomb so the main texture and design feel carry over to hold true to the tomb’s theme. A couple of new obstacles have been added like fall away poles that collapse under the wait of the ball, and rounders, annoying little devices that like to push the ball around and make navigating things like hallways a real trick.
I’m hoping to have the third level done and ready for beta in about two weeks or so, you will be able to see it in the Oct. update. Since I’ve decided to start doing regular updates as a means to help me stay focused and on track. Hope you enjoy the material.

P.S. As of right now I do not know when a public Demo will be available. I got a deal with Ice Byte Games to publish the title so I’ve been reworking and improving the game to bring it more up to par now that it is a sure thing. So a the demo release was postponed for now, But I will keep you all updated that as development continues. Thanks all!
