extreme snowboard new clip ! - 08/11/05 23:38

One week ago Realspawn Productions was approached to create a snowboard
game for the clothing brand O'Neill. After one week of hard work we are
allready close to a full working demo. The snow boarders will have full
physics.

Good job! The game looks really awesome. I am a snowboarder myself but I didn't see any snowboarding in the video, it just zoomed on the dude standing there with a snowboard. Good graphics so far though! I think your ideas for games are really good (like P-Slider and Monkeyball), so I emailed you guys once or twice in the past but I never got a response.

The happy look on his face is kinda kiddish. When I snowboard, my look is more determines if I'm trying to pull something new off, you might want to make it more like that.

I initially had the same reaction about the suprised look of the face, but then I looked closer and I was seeing his gotee as his mouth. Once I realized that the black spot was a gotee and not his open mouth, he did look a lot better.

Commercial Quality , very good detailled textures, moutain

Now the bad things
-The snowboarder have a too serious face, i really don't like it,
i don't know why, but perhaps i'm not the only one, you could make it younger.
-And glasses make him not friendly at all compared to snowboards games
i have played, change it's face make it more friendly.

-you use not enought polygons for legs and clothig in general (perhaps
it's for keeping good FPS (3DGS is not really fast )

And about it's position on the snowboard : VERY UNREALISTIC , it's like
he is fixed/glued on the board, it's legs are perpendicular to the board in the
air , like he has no inertia , no air friction ???
And it's head position ( too low / down ) looks like a turtle ??

Play real snowborads games on PC or onsole or watch real pictures to inspire yourself.

Now you have done an enormous work in one Week,
and you are not a studio of 60 people like big companys and your accomplished work is really good.

it's the beginning, and that's seems already one of the best games

The game looks very nice Realspawn, I know it must be my dad's pc, but somehow the movie doesn't start in his internet explorer browser, anyways in my opinion the character's face is perfectly fine, like he knows what he is doing (the "hey, I'm showing off here"-look ).
I'm looking forward for the new movie,

all the work done right now is the work of only four persons. (including myself). About the face and age of the model.... It's a test model full version will get 6 characters (man and Women) and one special character to unlock. Also keep in mind this is a rough setup for just the demo. i keep you all posted of the progress. how a characters face looks hehehe is all a matter of taste. I like this fellow a lot. cant wait to see him do some tricks I can imagine if we insert some women snowboarders you all have you're favourite looks right

good work, im a snowboarder and have been for the last 5 years.
the thing i find funny is the design concepts.
the character doesnt really fit the description of snowboarder
which made me laugh. blue suit with yellow stripes, goatee and sunglasses
haha.. i guess you dont need to look a certain way to snowboard.. but from a snowboarders point of view its pretty funny. well im not gonna
tell you what to make him look like. maybe replaces the sunglasses with goggles
tho. the snowboard seems a big too long. and its a bit plain.. a stripe..a graphic would be much nicer.

and another thing that was funny is the video. it kinda takes the word 'extreme'
out of your title. lol

one week, very impressive.
if you need any concept help
or anything, gimme a shout.

very well done, impressive movie. just one thing doesn´t fit: the circling camera in the last scene does not follow a "rounded" path, looks rather angular ^^ but nm.... give us some movin pictures of ingame snowboarding scenes!

some good talking is happening here. For the snowboard dude we took a look at other snowboard games and i think we have quite a fun character here. However this is fast uptempo work to create a fun working demo to show our skills. In full version real sporth clothes will be used aswell as graphics on snowboard. Characters will be 6 in total and a special fun suprise is in the making to unlock

as for moving and jump clips i got the first physics movement tests and they look promesing i keep you all updated. Keep in mind this is one week work so dont expect to see a smooth perfect game yet

A nude patch would be cool. I think snow and nude skin is something realy hot. That would be a reason for me to download the game because I am not so much interested into sport games.
I hope the secret player is not a panda bear or giraffe or monkey or a koala.

for those that are snowboarders i would like some inside informations about tricks and stunts. post them here and our animater will insert them.

What i need is :

Name trick/stunt and movement (Pictures/Movie)

more info : thxfor the tip about the size of the snowboard

I think this game is targetted for young wanna be kids.. And just the thaught of that face on a nude body gives me goose bumps.

as for tricks and movments its not something you can really explain,
you have to watch it being done to get the right body movements.
i can say.. 'method grab: when he grabs the edge of the board behind him between both of his feet' and you wouldnt get very far. even pictures arent
the 'best' because you can only see the trick in action not the movement
he did to get into that position.

i think the best games to get ideas from is 'Amped' and 'Amped2' for xbox.

that would be extremely cool The trees kinda don't fit in the situation without any snow on the branches of course. But if you don't find the time, that's not a problem at all mate. I still think they look really cool this way!

But you could put a lot more volume on the suit caus it looks more like a
jogging or sportswear instead of a snowborad suit.

you'll see the snowboarder in a stand pose with mouth shutted but it's face
looks too serious not enough happy for fun
and in screens you see the snowborader jumping in the air and suprised (mouth open), perhaps he is surprised about a tree he's going to eat

Just a tasty preference ... the game has great optential appart from details

will wear fully original sporth clothing the same thing on the snowboards faces and more

You made that in two weeks?!!! That's amazing!! I'm guessing from the quality of this compared to your other games (like Monkeyball, Pslider and all those), you must've only spent a month on each of those. That's like 6 months work for all those games you have on your site?! That's really good! I'm guessing you only make games as a side job for fun or something then? I'd have to say that your games are second only to Sammy Suricate in the best quality of 3DGS games I've ever seen......

took me a while for it to eventually start to buffer

the block could be shaped more at the beginning
nice tricks, but too easy to jump it seemed at 10seconds in, and later on

needs more work but its good

sure it does need work that's why its demo stuff.
things like a block doesnt really matter now as we have to test all actions and functions before full game creations starts. that's the whole purpose of a demo

the new clip is online its a biggy for stream but theres an option to download. Now keep al in mind this is demo stuff
done in 2.5 weeks time we have model levels animations physics tricks panels working but final product will be perfect.

Just finished playing the first beta demo. I have to say this game looks like its gonna rock big time

To have a playable beta in 2.5 weeks is incredible and the graphics are looking great. I can't wait to see how this game turns out.

Looks much better now! I like the terrain, the player animations and the overall feel of the game so far!

This next part is if you wanna make it realistic (unlike any of my games!) When I snowboard, I slowly lean to a 30 to 50 degree angle toward the ground when making sharp turns and stopping, this guy is quickly leaning like 10 to 30 degrees: you would crash in real life like this (especially in powder)! It's also very hard for me to start and stop rotation (during 360s etc.) while in the air off a jump like he does... I think I look just like this guy when I crash sometimes though, how he does cartwheels and bends his limbs and stuff! Also, when jumping, especially if there is no ramp, I always bend my legs and launch off a definite visible leg compression/expansion instead of just going up easily. Those are just things I saw that are different than reality. I would never wanna make a realistic game myself, but it seems like everyone else here wants to so that's my advice, but don't take it too seriously!

Just some comments, didnt read the entire thread so if this was already mentioned i apologize.

On your video;

- The snowboarders legs dont take any shock when he lands, he remains rigid even after dropping 20 feet, you should put a land animation.

- The snowboarding / in air needs to be differant so that the player can really tell he is in the air, try something as simple as the rider putting his ands up in the air "balancing", this is usefull so the rider can tell he is in the air.

Good job though!
