In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. images. - 03/26/07 12:00

Revised:

This project took me about 14 months to complete, and I finished it in March 2007. The screenshots stopped working, so im reposting them, with some new packaging photos. As of February 2010, sales are at roughly 1300 hard copies sold.

Game description:

The game revolves around the 6 days of creation, with a collection of mini games and activities for each day. The game is for children ages 6 to 10. Each "day" also has a gallery, a song, and a puzzle piece that the player has to print out. This piece is stuck to a poster that is packaged with the game. When it is finished, the player can color the picture in and stick it to their wall. I tried to cover a wide variety of skills with the game, like language skills, hand-eye coordination, logic and general knowledge.

Feedback:

Ive had very positive feedback. Children are enjoying it immensely and some sit for hours on end. There's nothing that can make me happier than to know that the game succeeds in what it was supposed to do! laugh Ive had very little problems with technical support, less than 1%. Most due to systems that don't adhere to the minimum requirements.

Congrats...kid games should sell pretty well!

@pappenheimer: indie = independent game developer, begin (slang) = begging...so it's about an independent game developer begging for money...like we all have to

Loopix that was brilliant! WHAHAHAHA!

In the Beginning is about the 6 days of creation. There are multiple activities that goes with each day. Its basically a collection of minigames. There are also 6 new songs. Its targeted at kids 6 - 10.

Some random screens...

The design looks nice. Donīt know if the gameplay is good, but what I can see on the screens looks nice for a kiddy game. And I must add that I donīt like any game which uses serious some religion.

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 03/27/07 14:24

The printing place burned down.

I ran through the flames and picked up the manuals and then did a dive through a 2ft concrete wall to safety. only 1 manual got damaged. burnt edge.

Sorry for the crappy quality photos. Im in a hurry. Have to do a load of things before we leave tomorrow on holiday.

A pencil in the picture to show scale. Its a small manual, folded in a zig zag way. full color both sides.

lol super small but so cool Congratz on your game. I hope it helps some kids to learn play-ish some stuff about religion (im not into religion though, but i always liked those kind of games as child).

Wish you all luck with selling it

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 04/03/07 16:14

Does this happen regularly in SA that printing places just burn down once in a while?

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 04/07/07 15:24

Thanks for all the encouragements, its appreciated.

The arts festival we went to was cool. Sold 27 copies. Just to give a perspective, when you sell products like CDs, DVDs etc at a festival like this, in the way we did (by the real "Oom Karoolus and Lente at their 8 shows), you dont sell much. 27 copies actually exceeded our expectations. What happens now is we will try to get it in a few shops, and see how it goes from there.

@ Firoball: yeah for some reason printing shops here just light themselves up for no reason. its got something to do with being mettaly unstable.

Congratulations. I would buy it to my son, if possible. Hope one day you can make a portuguese version.

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 07/30/07 13:55

Its been about 5 months since I finished the game. Total sales are about 250, which is ok. I actually have a publisher here in SA now distributing it for me, after clients asked them If they stock it lol. I don't complain! Its one of the biggest distributors of Christian music and DVD's in South Africa. I hope that sales will show a big increase now that I have a distributer on board. I hope for the best.

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 08/01/07 00:18

A small question, did you do any promotion for it?

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck, I think that publisher will increase your sales!

Cheers

Re: In die Begin (In the beginning) finished. imag - 08/01/07 11:54

Thanks Jostie.

Phemox, Not any REAL promotion. Only 1 radio interview that went out at about 7am. Reaped about 40 sales. My dad said I must consider running adds on that same station around the time the kiddies program is broadcasted. Im a bit hesitant, because I don't have enough cash at this time to gamble with. Still paying off the production cost, but it should be done really soon. I will see how it goes with the distributer, and if I get a good income I will probably do some advertisement. Thanks for the wishes.

Hi guys

I cant believe its been almost 3 years since I released my game! I though I should give you an update. Sales are standing at around 1300 copies, which isn't too bad. Bear in mind these are all packaged hard copies, with manual. It pays for computers, laptops and cameras! tongue

I thought I was going to start with a second game soon afterward, but as you know life happens and 3 years later I never got to it. I hope I can start again, its what I really want to do!

I havent been active here in a long time, so Im happy too go and see what you guys have been up too recently.

The images arent working in this thread unfortunately. Its hosted in my old photobucket account. Ill try to get that account active again soon. Photobucket is busy with maintenance.

Super awesome capanno!
I wonder if 1300 copies is much? I have no clue at such numbers, but eager to know your opinion on it. Did you expect more or has it risen above your expectations?
