Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?)

Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 01/23/20 10:25

Hello all, I've been having an ongoing issue while running Zorro that I can't figure out. There seems to be a discrepancy between what Zorro is presenting as my Equity & Profit/Losses and Reality. I ran a Live Z7 system in the fall of last year but pulled out because I was hemorrhaging money while Zorro kept saying it was actually making a profit(???)

After that I started a Z7 DEMO in the beginning of January, and I'm getting the same confusing in-congruence.

I've attached screenshots of the Start & End of this January Demo run to show what I'm talking about. As you can see in the first image, I started with an Equity of $12909.
The second image now shows that I have an Equity of $12664, and yet the next number in the Result Window (the Profit #) is showing a '+33102' ...
I have no idea where this "+33102" is coming from or what it's indicating, because it's pretty clear to me that I've lost Equity considering I started with $12909 and now have $12664... right? Shouldn't that +33102 instead be -245?

Now I should point out I do have a BALANCE of ~$14931 in my account, but I still don't understand how "+33102" would work with that Balance number?

I've been running all my stuff on Mt4 from an FxChoice account.

So what am I missing? Is it something obvious that I just am totally ignorant about(am I just being an idiot)? or is there something wrong with my broker's API? or something else?

Thanks for any Help!

We call something like that "garbage in garbage out". Zorro results will be wrong when you entered wrong parameters in the asset list. If the parameters are very wrong then the results will also be very wrong.

Exception is when the results are not calcuated by Zorro but available from the broker API, this works normally with MT4 but not always. If you get wrong results from MT4 then you must use Brokerpatch to let Zorro calculate them.

Thanks for the reply Petra.

So I guess the parameters of my AssetsFix.csv need to be updated to my broker's parameters? If so, I actually found a script written by the member sdh309795gaas on this forum here that downloads (I think) the appropriate asset parameters from the broker; I'm going to try again with this new updated Asset list, hopefully it works!

Thanks again!

Update.. still getting the same issue 21 days later!

I probably sound like a complete noob but maybe I'm not understanding how to "edit the parameters in the asset list" .. do you know what exact parameters need to be updated? and we're talking about the AssetsFix.csv file as the Asset List right?

Yes. But first determine if this is the problem at all. Normally Zorro gets trade results directly from the broker. So live results are always correct, even when the asset parameters are wrong.

You must actively switch off API returns for getting wrong results. Or you have a broker that does not return trade results at all, for instance an NFA broker. Without knowing what you did or from which broker you got the wrong profits, it is hard to tell what the problem is.

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/19/20 10:18

Thanks for your reply jcl!!

So the broker I have is FxChoice which is a broker based in Belize, not under NFA; but I'm not sure how I would determine for sure that they are or are not returning trade results? I'm using their Mt4 'classic demo' platform, by the way.

I also don't think I manually switched off API returns, at least certainly not wittingly.

I've seen other users on this forum use FxChoice, as seen in this post by the user sdh309795gaas; so I assume the broker is working for some people. It follows, then, that I'm probably doing something wrong on my end; I just can't figure out what that is.

thanks again for your help, really appreciate it.

Are you trading with Fxchoice via MT4?

Yes, via Mt4

Ok. I suppose you haven't modified BrokerPatch in z.ini. The next step: Compare a recent trade in the 3 logs, the Zorro log, the MT4 experts log, and the MT4 journal. If you get wrong results, one of the 3 must be wrong - or all 3. Post the relevant sections of the logs here.

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/26/20 09:06

So here's a single trade I found, shorting GBP/USD, marked in each of the 3 logs

Zorro Log:
(a) [GBP/USD:PD:S4135] Short 19@1.29198 Risk 384 t at 09:07:01
(b) Error 015: trade [GBP/USD:PD:S4135] bad exit price 0.0000
(c) [GBP/USD:PD:S4135] Cover 19@0.0: +24544 at 16:07:01

Mt4 Experts Log:
(a) 2020.02.21 04:07:00.365 Zorro EURUSD,M15: open #71254135 sell 0.19 GBPUSD at 1.29178 sl: 1.32178 ok
(b) 2020.02.21 11:07:00.852 Zorro EURUSD,M15: Close [GBPUSD:S4135] 0.19@1.2960
(c) 2020.02.21 11:07:00.930 Zorro EURUSD,M15: close #71254135 sell 0.19 GBPUSD at 1.29178 sl: 1.32178 at price 1.29597

Mt4 Journal:
(a) 2020.02.21 04:07:00.365 '314900': order was opened : #71254135 sell 0.19 GBPUSD at 1.29178 sl: 1.32178 tp: 0.00000
(b) 2020.02.21 11:07:00.852 '314900': close order #71254135 sell 0.19 GBPUSD at 1.29178 sl: 1.32178 tp: 0.00000 at price 0.00000
(c) 2020.02.21 11:07:00.930 '314900': order #71254135 sell 0.19 GBPUSD at 1.29178 sl: 1.32178 tp: 0.00000 closed at price 1.29597

That Error 015 in the Zorro log is something I've been seeing often while running the system too. To be honest I'm not even 100% sure what to look out for here, but the 'bad exit price 0.0000' stands out to me as strange.

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/26/20 14:29

Yes, that's the problem. MT4 returned no exit price. Therefore the results do not match.

Which Zorro version are you using?

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/27/20 14:18

I've been running this on Zorro 2.20
late last year I was running z7 on Zorro 2.15 and getting similar error's & results too

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/28/20 11:13

Ok. This is apparently an issue with the MT4 server setup of that broker. For a workaround, edit your z.ini file and set BrokerPatch = 3. Then Zorro will calculate the profits. This will produce more correct values, but they will still not 100% match the MT4 results. But it is not harmful to the strategy.

We would like to look closer into that matter. Does it only happen with a real account, or also with a demo account? Do you get error 015 with trades of any asset, or only with some assets?

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 02/29/20 04:54

Okay I'll try this workaround, thanks for your help.

These results I've posted are from running a Demo account, and it also happened earlier on a Real live account too; in fact I only started running this Demo after getting these weird errors during a live run.

And yes, the error 015 seem to happen with any asset; here's a few recent errors I just got in my Zorro log:

Error 015: trade [EUR/USD:PD:L0540] bad exit price 0.0000
[EUR/USD:PD:L0540] Sell 23@0.0: -24955 at 09:59:12
Error 015: trade [USD/JPY:PD:L0541] bad exit price 0.0000
[USD/JPY:PD:L0541] Sell 25@0.0: -25003 at 09:59:12

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 03/11/20 08:40

Hey jcl I've been running the system with brokerpatch set to 3 as per your guidance above, and you did mention that the results still wouldn't match my Mt4 results 100%... but I'm getting numbers wayy off now lol.

Zorro’s now telling me that I have an equity of -39189 and lost -49165 in the 11 days I’ve been running this under brokerpatch = 3; and yet my actual equity in this demo account has gone from about 10284 to 9299.

Considering all this, I suppose it's now safe to assume that something is off with my asset list right?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Zorro showing Incorrect Results (I think..?) - 03/11/20 12:19

Yes. When you use BrokerPatch, then your asset list must be correct. A wrong asset list would then produce likewise wrong results. Check your asset parameters, as described here: https://manual.zorro-project.com/account.htm
