The Black Book

The Black Book - 06/04/20 22:34

I was thinking about purchasing The Black Book, but most of the reviews say the information is pretty much contained in the Zorro manual.

I don't mind buying the book if it is believed to be more helpful than just reading the Zorro manual, but if it is 90% redundant then I am not sure.

Any comments would be helpful.

Thanks

Just buy it, it is good.

The earlier you buy it, the better.
I just started with Zorro, C, and it could have saved me a lot of time.

Of course, if you are a professional developer, maybe it is not what you may expect, but if you start with Zorro, it gives you a lot.

Some of the critics complained about the strategies, so he did adjust them in 3rd edition a bit.
Some complain it is basically the manual as a book, well partly that is true, difference is, and that is important, the book leads you somewhat guided through the important parts to start with Zorro.

All in all, the critics are exagerating, the book is good, of course, we all always want more.
So I can't wait for another article on the financial hacker laugh

And about redundancy, yes, of course you will find almost everything in the manual, it is, because the Zorro manual is one of the best I did ever read.
Since almost 30 years, doing IT, and almost never found any manual as good as the one of Zorro.

So yes, it is redundant, but different. Yes you will somewhat understand the critics, but I never regrett buying it anyway.

Thank for your comments

I bought the book and am enjoying it.

I can see where the overlap is and the manual is probably sufficient if you are already a programmer, but I’m not. I appreciate the books writing style vs the manual being a reference with syntax. It makes it easier and more enjoyable to learn and digest.

Yes, depending on your skills it makes total sense, if I could go back, that would be the first I do.

I have to admit that I found out the word without buying the book. The word is contained on page 23 of this book.

Cool, but the scripts will make more sense if you read the book anyways.

Yes, the context will definitely help. Atm. I'm going through the manual, jcl's blog and youtube videos by boatman.

Not ready to commit yet to the book or an S-license as I'm in early stages learning about Zorro.

Not affiliated or somehow connected to JCL or the black book.
Zorro is a free and more convenient than any back-testing software I am aware of, so just from this point of view, if you can pay some kind of gratitude, by buying the book, if you can afford it.

But, also from a very egoistic point of view, you should the book, as it will save you many hours of learning.
