Old games deserving a sequel..

Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/01/08 22:19

I was just thinking about some of the awesome game franchises that sadly never got a sequel. It's such a shame. Of course it's mainly a matter of taste when it comes to which games belong in here, but some of 'em actually were quite successful. Anyways here it goes:

Full Throttle
Urban Chaos
Oni
Sacrifice
Messiah
Outcast
Evolva
Project: Eden
Hardwar

I'm probably missing a few, so join in and add your favorites-but-never-got-a-sequels to the thread,

Cheers

I would add Hardwar.

Totally! Hardwar is another one of those gems deserving a sequel. smile

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/02/08 00:08

I agree with all games listed so far, even though I sort of had in mind not to list games that actually did get a sequel. It's all good though as the topic is 'old games deserving a sequel'.

I realize there are a lot of games with quite dissatisfying sequels out there, so feel free to post those as well. Please say why you didn't like the sequel(s) that díd came out for those games.

I think Quake 3 is a good example. They didn't really care about the Quake 1 legacy, instead they used the franchise to create something new. It's not all bad as the game is fun to play and all, but perhaps it should have become a new franchise all together. There hasn't really been a true Quake sequel. I guess this is true for many games where developers decided to 'try something new'.

Heck yes, another very cool game that deserves a sequel!

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/02/08 01:01

Wizard of Wor
Gunstar Heroes
Landstalker (there have been derivates and remakes, but not a real sequel)
Panzer Dragoon Saga

There aren't that many games where I'mmissing a sequel which means many of my favorite games actually GOT a sequel. For the remaining games, maybe it is good that they have no sequel, that makes them really outstanding...?

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/02/08 01:34

Dungeon Keeper
Populous
Abe's Abyss/Exodus
Warzone 2100
Worms Armageddon (Worms 3D is some kind of "f-ed up")
Rollercoaster Tycoon (again, the new 3D sequel is BAD)
Monkey Island! (can't blieve noone mentioned it laugh at least a remake of the old games so you dont need an SCUMMVM)
Rent-a-Hero
Zazarah [not so old though](reminds me of finally buying the full game, should be available at low budget price by now laugh )
Wiggles [also, not so old]
Giants
Oni
Half Life - Gunmen
Startopia
Black and White (B&W 2 was kinda disappointing)
Delta Force
System Shock
Deus Ex (the sequel isn't good, hoped for smth better)
Homeworld
Klingon Honor Guard
"some game I cant remember the name of because I never bought the full version and cant find the demo anymore"
Caesar 1-3
Recoil (3dfx pawah)
MDK

and lots of others

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/02/08 02:09

All of those titles imo deserve a high priority for a sequel because they just rock(ed)!
  • Elite
  • K240 / Fragile Allegiance
  • Freespace
  • Privateer
  • Total Annihilation (SupCom doesn't count, there also is Spring but still there should be something AAA)
  • Crusader
  • Alien vs. Predator
  • X-Wing
  • Duke Nu**m 3D
  • Jedi Knight (GIVE ME THE FORCE UNLEASHED FOR PC GODDAMMIT!!!)
  • Theme Hospital
  • Dungeon Keeper
  • Syndicate

You're right Firo, I may alter my list:

Quote:

Imperialism (Imperialism 2 was bad so I skipped it)
Dungeon Keeper 2
Populous 3 (Loved this tiny 3d globe)

many good games got mentioned allready like theme hospital or rollercoaster tycoon. But want to have a sequel to is Contructor/Streetwars

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/02/08 11:53

I can't believe someone mentioned Wizard of Wor. That game was pure awesome. But I can't imagine how a sequel would look like.. The gameplay was just to simple to make it a 2008 AAA game.. So I think that would be the job for an indy!

Also, K240.. Pure gold.. Now that game I could see with modern graphics.. Especially the nuke attacks

I haven't actually played Privateer 1 but I did play Privateer 2 and loved it. Space missions, pimping up your ship and a sweet storyline with real video footage.. What more would you possible want from a game?

Ok. I'd like a Fallout 2 sequel please..

Also I have to add:

Detroit
Colonization
The Clue! (there's a 'sequel' called "The Sting!" where they managed to suck out all the atmosphere from the first masterpiece..)
Shadow of the Beast 4
and finally.. Pizza Tycoon anyone? (4 player hotseat and the ability to call mafia to bazooka the opponent pizza shops..)

This is getting filled nicely, great work. Some classic games are mentioned here, cool stuff.

I also remembered Golden Axe, but I hear they are actually busy making a sequel for PS3 or so.

I believe it is out, loved it on megadrive, also i loved streets of rage, a next-gen sequel will be nice.

A classic version of sonic would be nice, instead of the spin-offs.
Also i love the total war series, another time age would be nice.

I know what you're saying man. smile

For me personally it's one of those classics that didn't really got the success it deserved for sure!

The puzzles were great, the switching of characters worked, all in all a good looking and nice to play game.

i played the project eden demo, but i didn't like it, mediocre graphics, slow gameplay. nice setting though.

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/04/08 08:05

Does anybody know the game "Stunt Car Racer"? I played it on C64 very frequently. But probably there are some similar projects today like "Trackmania". So it is not the best project for a remake. But it was fun at that time to race through the roller coaster race track to jump and to fight the AI.

Stunt Car Racer rocked smile

My car always had so many "holes" though... smile

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/14/08 16:43

Traders! YES. Quite a long time ago that I last played that one.

Anyways, another game deserving a sequel;

Aliens vs. Predator. I wonder if they'll ever make a 3rd game.
Posted By: Orange Brat

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/15/08 05:09

Grim Fandango - either a prequel using Manny in some other storyline with a mostly new cast (except his coworkers) or a sequel using an all new cast or some clever reuse of the old ones. Hell, I'd settle for a remake with more modern graphics and much better controls.

Beyond Good and Evil - one of the great games. Actually this is getting a sequel finally, but I thought I'd list it anyway. wink

Bone - Telltale gave us the first two parts and then just stopped and switched to Sam and Max and Strong Bad.
Posted By: PHeMoX

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 11/15/08 12:54

I've never played Bone, but is it really that good? It probably is because it seems to have been the reason why they got the green light making Sam & Max games. If it weren't for Telltale, Sam & Max would be on the list by the way! smile

Re: Old games deserving a sequel.. - 12/10/08 14:06

Mmmm, reading a review of the promising Red Faction: Guerilla reminded me about this.

A sequel (or better yet a remake) of the original Battlezone 1 would be nice.
