Re: Good Old PC Games - 07/11/09 06:44

Strategy:
Age of Empires I and II are always fun.
Empire Earth I on LAN is awesome! Beating up your prehistoric enemy with nukes never gets boring. Campaign is quite good too.

FPS:
Quake II, fastest death matches ever.
Battlefield 2, not that old (2005-ish) but still doesn't need that good of a computer.

Simulation:
Zoo Empire, Underrated.
<forget the name, 3D jurassic park or something>, Made in 2003, and is still worth playing
H.A.W.X, I know this only just came out, but it's the only modern game my computer has ever been able to play on high.

Re: Good Old PC Games - 07/11/09 10:38

Gothic I + II + Addon - RPG

Re: Good Old PC Games - 07/11/09 10:54

Yes, Gothic 3 was crap, compared to 1 and 2,
In 2 I enjoyed the addon the most (brought back the
"Camp" athmosphere of the first game), although
after finishing the addon mission, it was unplayably hard in the main quest.

I bought 3, but this game has bad graphics (the landscape was ok, but especially
the people look silly)
and a much worser gameplay. So I quit after playing it 2 hours.
Was a nice example of destroying a working game-concept
by trying to appeal to the international market, and
rushing out the game too quick.

---

Monkey Island is an Amiga game for me. Never played the
PC version.

Add Half-life 1, Battlezone 1, Prince of Persia and Thief: The Dark Project and you pretty much have named all of my 'favorite games of all time'.

Some games that seemed very obscure to me when i was a child:
- Phylox (what the hell is this game about??? Why am i flying through a gastro-intestinal tract at the beginning of the game in a flying chair?)
- Skunny (i liked the games...but for some reason there was always something strange about that squirrel)
- Tex Murphy Overseer (What the...wait...i ... uuh...what?)
- Prisoner of Ice (I nearly scared myself to death when that alien broke out of the cargo room in the submarine. Never touched that game again until some weeks ago. Game seems pretty boring now)
- Magic Carpet (I loved the intro, i liked the game...i hated those nasty looking worms which threw fireballs at me all the time and scared the shit out of me when i was a child. Don't get me wrong, i like the game, but it's more of a hate-love here)

I could go on and on as there were a lot of great games in the DOS and WIN95 era, but those are the ones that just jumped into my head while thinking about the topic. wink

Raptor? I like Demonstar a whole lot better though. Has the same kind of quality gameplay. smile

Good list though!

Ahhh, oh and I forgot Outcast as one of my alltime favorites.

Since one in the series has been mentioned, I have to recommend:

Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight with the SaberX mod

It's a thousand times better than JK2 or JK3....JK2 and 3 are crap in comparison.

Ah, when it comes to Turn Based Strategy games, I really really like Silent Storm a lot. Great game and the destructible environments were awesome.
