You don't know when to stop, huh?

Alright then, Cowabanga. I ... don't really know you, but I would not be surprised if you read this despite you saying "I will close the tab!".

And, to be honest, I can see where you're coming from. I tried to look through your posts to create a list that would show why you're leaving, but you're posting so much that this becomes difficult. On the plus side, though, most of these posts were helpful and nice. laugh
On the down side, some of them where predictable posts with little to no content - there must have been a phase in which you were the first to jump on any "Jobs offered"-post with something like "Nobody will help if you don't pay!!". Truth to be told, I could live without these posts.

But I really don't think you deserved the beating you sometimes got here. No, scratch that, it's not a "I really don't think". I'm going to use stronger terms and say you definately didn't deserve that.
I'm all for a little joking here and there, but sometimes, people just went way too far.

I mean, take this as what you will. I'm not a moderator, much less someone who matters (and thank god for that!), but I do read posts here regulary. I think I will definately notice your absence.
What really bothers me though is the circumstances in which you (have to?) leave.
Too bad you've decided to leave this place for good. I suppose taking it a bit more slowly as far as posting is concerned would have worked just as well. Well, maybe you'll have a comeback as well! laugh

Well, alright then... It's a farewell thread, after all.
Good bye.

Re: Good bye - 08/31/09 22:08

you want to leave this forums...

maybe you havn´t noticed this, but its nearly impossible to go forever. many tried this before and they´re back (including me grin)
you cant escape! this forum is like a drug and we all are addicted. and i havnt found any other forum where the people comes so close together, although they come from all corners of the world. we share a spirit which cant be couched, driven from the one big vision "creating a videogame".

so i dont want to say "goodbye", i say...

see you later

Re: Good bye - 08/31/09 22:23

Ok...

I didn't said that i'll leave completely, i'll be active again after the users became more mature, like i said.
And, i'm still working with 3DGS.

EDIT:
You're right, no one can get out, even me. But, when i posted this thread, i was very disappointed, because some users was very mean to me. And i gave up. That's why i leaved.
But now, some nice users has cheered me up, and some users has disappointed me, even more!

So, i'm now confused. Should i stay or should i go?

Re: Good bye - 08/31/09 22:43

Error014 presents: The helpful guide to a wonderful and happy live in the forum!™

Step one:
Let this thread die, and never create something that you might one day remember as embarassing again.

Step two:
Stop with predictable and/or unconstructive posts, i.e. "This doesn't belong in Showcase!", "You will never find someone with no PAY!", etc.
Don't bother with this stuff. Develop your game instead laugh

Step three:
Keep your helpful attitude and continue with your helpful posts.
Continue posting funny stuff and replies.

Step Four:
Keep your chin up and don't let comments from heartless bastards - i.e. people like me - get to 'ya. This is the internet, so a thick skin is required. Note that this is NOT the same as ignoring critique. It's about ignoring personal stuff. The key to professionalism is in your attitude regarding critique. But I do think you do that nicely already. Now you just have to learn to deal with the personal stuff. Step two helps with reducing it, but the sooner you learn to deal with it, the happier you will be. This even applies to real life (which is rare for internet-advice)

Step Five:
Find every game I ever posted, download it and post in the thread how amazing they are. This adds much needed happy-points to the pityful black pile of sadness that is my soul.

EDIT: Also what JulzMighty says.

Re: Good bye - 08/31/09 22:48

I guess it's about maturity. You have trouble with the immaturity of some other users (understandable), but they act in such a way in response to your immaturity (I'm not saying it's justified, but when you're being treated differently to others, perhaps there's something you need to work on).

Should you stay or should you go? The immature thing to do would be to leave despite the helpfulness of the forum and many of the users here.

I find that this community is really important and helpful. Do they treat me better than some of them treat you? Maybe. But perhaps somewhere in your 2000 posts in one year (wow) you earned a bit of a reputation, and still miss some bits of this community's "forum culture".

Alright, E14, thank you very much for cheering me up laugh !
I really won't forget your help, ever. And i'll do everything in your post, if it makes the users here happy, and makes me happy. So the answer is YES! laugh

Now, to let this thread die, a moderator should delete this.

EDIT: Ah, Jibb has posted, too. Thanks for the hints. But look at the Arab forum. Users can make 7000 posts in a year. I wnder how can they make those posts. tongue

Re: Good bye - 08/31/09 23:11

Cheer up.

If you let people change your behavior-- make you feel bad, then you are giving them power. The trick is to not let people get to you so that you can keep the power that you have. You can take that lesson with you throughout your life. Sometimes I think that people have a need to always test each other...some vestigial instinct from cavemen.

Also, on another note, remember that your poop stinks as well. That is, everyone's poop stinks. I'm sure that someone here did not appreciate something that you wrote at one time or another. (You and I had misunderstanding on one post. Seriously "check it" is a saying among my friends like let's "kick it." )

At any rate, I suppose there would be no harm in forgiving folks as well. That is a can of worms, but you can try that so that things don't eat you up, eh.

The problem with "humor" and "maturity" we all have a different take on it.

Yes, I understood that, but I guess I confused things by putting the world "thread" in there (I don't know why).

Re: Just ignore this thread - 09/01/09 02:51

People might seem harsh like I'll admit the 5 word posts and the contentless obvious posts were a bit annoying as well as the constant warez accusations but if you were to tone that down and to listen to the advice here, you'd have a much better time, as well as realizing that you dont have to reply to every post, but only to the ones that you can contribute something useful to.

Simple. They have a boring job or no social life. If you win this contest (creating most postings in a short time) then I would not be proud of such a medal. The real world would call you a nerd or an internet junkie if you tell them about it. The other forum users could be bothered because of spam.

I think the best way is to work on your projects. It will change everything. You will learn a lot about game making, you can give better help to others, you have less time to spam one-liners and you could be successful one fine day and that makes you sexy in the end wink

Re: Just ignore this thread - 09/02/09 03:55

did you ever hear the expression dig your own grave ? thats what you did.

every post was a shovel full of dirt and after 2000 in a year , you now find yourself underground soo far you cannot climb out.

now you have the nerve to say other users are imature , look in the mirror, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

if your going to leave , then leave. if your going to stay then stay , but OMG enough with the drama

More mature? You mean, in that people won't post threads threatening to leave doing their silly drama-queen thing? grin

I'm sorry and no offense, but you haven't exactly been a pristine example of maturity either. wink

If they harassed you in some way, you should notify moderators. To be honest, I think you're alright, but I can see why some people would feel like being stepped on their toes by certain comments you've made.

Continue to at least pretend to be more mature than the others and just stay. laugh There will always been issues and conflicts, but you shouldn't leave just to avoid problems.

Cheer up! You'll get over it eventually. wink cool

If someone's posting 7000+ posts a year, it better be part of their social lives. In fact, I believe it probably is.

7000 posts in a short period of time doesn't inevitably mean they're mostly or all spam either.

You're perhaps not aware of the significant cultural difference, but those Arab forums tend to be more like conversations and much less like a passive thing. It feels a lot more like a private environment. Same is true for many other non-English forums and post-counts tend to be much much higher. In fact, there's even a huge difference in texting habits (mobile phone communication) as well. It's pretty interesting.

I'll give it to you that posting +7000 comments will take a considerable amount of time, but when they are much more like a conversation, you'll see posting 70 comment a day isn't all that much actually.

You can probably forget about posting 70 or more useful and informative posts that at the same time are all game studio related, but it's basically still a different thing compared to actual forum spamming.

Re: Good bye - 09/03/09 13:40

Phemox: If you follow such a deep and frequent communication then instant messengers or chats are the better choice. A forum has a different purpose than that as you can see from the topics of each category.

And I agree that instant message communication can produce Hundrets of lines every day. But it is more private and thus has a better social impact compared to talking to the entire world via forum.

I already notified a moderator, but he said: "No, he did nothing". Or, with a better way: "This isn't really an attack".

Re: Good bye - 08/11/15 10:07

Well, I beg to differ. Meant as an assault or not, it was insulting towards a particular ethnical group. Yet, it was a minor violation and not a hate tirade, so I would leave it with a warning. Please notify, if the issue continues.

Re: Good bye - 08/17/15 02:00

I don't think it is a 'minor violation'. You didn't even delete the post, while in fact, you should ban the user too ....

Btw., there are more posts like this, I checked out. The user 'cowabanga' even notified a previous moderator (don't know if it was you or another one) but he/she didn't do anything, ... as if he liked it ...
